    interesting because Smollett lawyered up with a high profile defense lawyer this same evening
    could just be the brothers rolled over on Smollett and gained their release because it isn't an assault if it was consensual and why Smollett felt the need to hire a lawyer

    I bet you hit the nail on the head. Smollett identified them as the assailants on the video. The cops had the bleach, possibly DNA or fingerprints off the hot sauce container and their phones. Possibly other evidence. The cops most likely had enough evidence to charge them with felonious assault. They may even have enough to charge them as accessories in the hoax. These guys probably decided they weren't going to jail for him and talked. Smollett got the call to come down to HQ for a talk. He knows what is coming so he lawyered up.

    it now appears this Smollett guy tried to save his career by playing the race card. Be honest people, he didn’t learn that tactic in a vacuum, it’s practically taught to them.
