Education is supposed to expose kids to knowledge and different ideas and to teach them to THINK. The Trump boys missed the boat and lack confidence in America and American schools.

Now, why the supposedly anti-Trump media are not having this on the front pages 24/7 is beyond me. Obama saying "you didn't built that" and Hillary's "deplorables" sure got a lot more media action, after being totally bent out of context. It seems that the Trumps so far are surprisingly immune to their hateful words actually alienating people. That immunity won't last.

Democratic Socialism is the main branch of the philosophy of Socialism.

Therefore, democratic socialism firmly positions on the conception that democratic methods namely, parliamentary, legal and constitutional etc. should be the only methods for setting up a society based on the principles of socialism. In brief, democratic socialism based on the concept of reaching socialist goals through democratic means.

In other words, a not so clever "end around" to achieve Socialism in the USA within the established democrat party.

Now if you want to refer to what is being taught in public classrooms, your label applies.

Annenberg is a far left Progressive organization deeply imbedded in public education.

Perhaps Progressives should get some better information before trying to deny reality.

Property owners pay taxes that fund public education. If one doesn't have children, they still have to pay those taxes. How is that not socialism?

 

Look into the history of public education. There was a time when education was not mandatory. With the advent of the industrial revolution, technology advancements required workers to be more educated and skilled. The most productive time to provide that education is when a person is young.

Public Education is directed by States, not the Federal Government. If education was socialism, the Federal Government would be in charge of everything. It's not.

 

So mandatory education, paid for by tax payers - regardless of whether or not they can take advantage of the service - is not socialism?

Correct. It is not socialism. A person who doesn't own a car contributes to maintaining streets and highways by consuming products that are shipped by vehicles that do contribute funds to do that.

Given that government or collective control of production is a central feature of socialism one probably could make the argument that K-12 public education is socialist. Obviously, private education is not.

Now ask yourself who's getting better outcomes? I don't seem to hear a constant drumbeat about the failure of private schools. In fact, they've become a refuge from failing public schools.
