I think there's a transition period: From making amends for our dark past, to leaving that past behind and(since it's largely a Liberal argument in the first place), the Liberal Party never quite made that transition. Slavery for example, is over. Sans a time machine, I literally cannot make that era any better for the slaves, nor can I convince a people(who believed in their own misguided sense of racial or biblical superiority) that slavery is a moral wrong that cannot stand.

What we can do, and did is issue Lincoln's proclamation, and via the 14th Amendment and outlawing Jim Crow, we eventually did away with the vestiges of slavery and racism as government institutions. On a personal level, racist bias(like any other bias) should be allowed, in the simple context that we've learned through Hitler's Germany that a policy of exclusion leads necessarily and only to an outcome of annihilation.

Simply put, the world's not perfect. If the racist isn't violating anyone's rights, it's no worse the wear. I had to pick up this argument with another poster on a different post separately, where the poster asked me what would I have done other than AA. Which I find as a well-intentioned program with unfortunate consequences. To me, it's not what I "would have done", but it's what needs to be done now.

We cannot defeat racism via racism. Extremism via extremism. Only pragmaticism and civil discussion can defeat these forces. The extremist can only attract like extremists(thus the divide). There's a WHOLE middle waiting to be swallowed by a pragmatic, reasonable person. We're waiting for that person today.

I think Liberals can "return to earth" when they make the transition that past transgressions can't be fixed, and the current more pressing issue is to resolve our problems today.

 

There is of course no relevant comparison. Honest intellects see this. Why not compare all walls, like the ones surrounding the compounds of the rich, to the Berlin Wall?

Now, Cortez has not been in DC long enough to get the millions to build herself a compound, but just give her the time, and inevitable opportunity, and at some point in time, she will be quite happy behind her walls, to keep out the riff raff, and will also possible employ her own armed security guard force. I guess particular individuals don't have the cognitive ability to see that what is a good idea at the micro level, many times works as well on the macro level. Your property with its security and fencing, and US Property, or the property of the people, there isn't much difference, given the principle involved.

No, it's not a classroom but Politics is Philosophy. Plato/Socrates originally designed politics for that purpose. It wasn't meant for the lemmings to consume and in fact, that was their greatest fear. Rather than blame "White Nationalism" or anything, a more logical explanation into our situations is quite simple: A lot of low-educated people got vested into politics, unnecessarily and thus diluting the political pool so that a Trump or an AOC can step into it.
