Predictably, you refuse to educate yourself on the flag's disparate meanings, taking refuge in your narrow perceptions and selective condemnation.

I hope you can broaden your perspective on this someday, as you clearly possess the intellectual capacity to do so, powerful as denial, bigotry and self-conferred obfuscation can be.

 

Yet you condemn a historical artifact - a flag - with meanings as disparate as memorials to the serial rapists and genocidal terrorists I mentioned.

As to ignoring historical facts, I agree that your doing so is sad and pathetic given your fine mind.

 

Predictably, you haven't read the posts you are responding to and refuse to discuss any actual history at all. Selective condemnation? No, I've condemned actions of the Union as well, although this is an irrational argument. Whether or not the Confederacy was motivated by slavery has nothing to do with condemnations against the Union. Disparate meanings? I've outright stated, several times, that modern people do use the flag to represent other things and that most of the people who fly it do not do so because they are racist.

Opening one's mind and broadening perspective is great . . . when there is additional information to consider. Changing one's mind on claims of history based on whims and desires instead of facts isn't being open minded, it is being willingly self-deceptive.

The irony here is thick enough to stir. You are engaging in denial while calling any attempt to do actual history homework "denial." As far as "bigotry" goes, that fake argument has already been burned to the ground. I love the South and I love living in it. I can leave any time I want to. I don't want to. Acknowledging objective facts is not "bigotry." It is intellectual honesty. Try it out.
