Only six countries have equal rights for men and women, World Bank finds

The world is moving towards legal gender equality -- but it's moving very, very slowly.

Only six countries currently give women and men equal rights, a major report from the World Bank has found.

That's an increase -- from zero -- compared to a decade ago, when the organization started measuring countries by how effectively they guarantee legal and economic equality between the genders.

But the rate of progress means that, by CNN calculations, women won't achieve full equality in the areas studied by the World Bank until 2073.

When men can get out of a speeding ticket by showing some cleavage I think women will have earned the right to march.

Now.....not that big of a deal really.

So much irony in America's wars and sanctions... women in these countries are forced to sell their bodies to feed their families... while American women march for the tip of the iceberg already conquered

    Honest question.

In the US, what legal rights do men enjoy that women do not?

I hate to burst your bubble but in the US men DO NOT enjoy the legal right of "equal pay for the exact same job" either. Your reply is thus a major FAIL.

Try again, name one legal right in the US the men have and the women do not have.

That's right there is no law making employers pay men and women the same pay for performing the same job.BUT THERE SHOULD BE!!

The equal pay act was passed and signed into law by Kennedy in 1963 yet it has never seemed to be enforced unless women individually sue.

This is a myth. There is zero evidence that two equally qualified people, hired for the exact same job, on the same day, will get paid differently based on genitalia.

What some women complain about is that when they voluntarily choose to leave the workforce to raise children, they can't rejoin the workforce 15 years later and make the same as a man who has been employed and getting raises for those 15 years. (Not to mention the increase in skill during that time.)

Not much can be done about that. Anyone in favor of making employers give women 15 years of raises, even though they didn't work?

I didn’t know people still believed this myth. Read something other than Times, and watch something other than CNN

The gender pay gap is a myth. A particularly virulent one at that. The gender earnings gap is real, and there are very fair reasons for it.

Even Hillary's campaign team was found to have been paying women employees less than men, so there's obviously some phenomena at play other than intentional gender-based discrimination.

From what I've read the study that the pay gap originally came from compared yearly wadges not hourly. Men are a little more likely to take overtime and less likely to take time off for pregnancy and children. With low to wadge earners the gap normally doesn't exist but when you're talking about surgeons, professors and business executives you start to see it.

So if you don't want to be effected by the wadge gap make sandwiches not decisions.

    I'll take a BLT.
