Why do you consider it race baiting to point out the disparity between how white and black people are treated in the criminal justice system?

Most of what he was whining about, Manafort hasn't been setenced for yet. Cohen who cheated the IRS out of million$ ... defrauded financial institutions? 1 yr less, and it settled both jurisdictions. Know what would be ironic? Cohen predicted he'd be "whacked in prison" ... like maybe by Paul Manafort down at club fed? ::):

I do not believe it is white vs black. I believe you can buy all the justice you can afford to buy.

Blacks need to start trying to become billionaires rather than live in poverty.

You have one young person (Kardashian) who set the record for youth becoming a billionaire. And she hangs around blacks all the time. Her entire family favors only blacks.

Should she get arrested, she can afford the most expensive lawyer.

That doesn't sound right. I know they get pulled over and arrested more (and I don't think that's ok) but once it actually gets to court do blacks get penalized more for the same crime as a white person would? Like would a white person get 10 years for armed robbery but a black person gets 10 plus 2 extra for blackness? Is that how it works?

My mind isn't made up on the matter of his sentencing, but rich old white guys certainly do enjoy some of the greatest comfort and privilege that human civilization has to offer in modern times. Actually, being a rich anybody anywhere is generally the way to be.

    Per the article:

"Also, a 2013 study found that federal prosecutors are more likely to charge black people than similarly situated white people with offenses that carry higher mandatory minimum sentences"

I don't think that happens as much these days but I can't prove it and at least you linked something about it

So, what kind of penalty would a minority guy face if he were to steal $15M from the federal government through 8 findings of criminal guilt?

This was a crystal clear case of "white guy" justice.

    Well, you muffed that.

This sentence was WAY outside the penalty range for this kind of crime, as determined by looking at similar cases.

    NOBODY has suggested mandatory minimums.

The issue is rational equality in sentencing.

Manafort's history is that he has been found guilty of numerous federal crimes besides the 8 of this particular case.

The additional crimes include guilty pleas for the 10 crimes for which the Ellis jury didn't return a guilty verdict!

And, he has shown absolutely zero remorse for ANY of them.

Not to mention that he lied to the special counsel when he agreed to cooperate, AND he continued breaking the law after he'd been indicted.

Why should "remorse" be an issue if he is guilty?

And I'm talking about him not having a criminal history prior to these most recent crimes.

Even Judge Ellis, who has been on the side of the defense of Mueller from the start, stated that he was surprised that Mueller expressed no remorse. It goes to the question of whether he even knows right from wrong, or intends to abide by the law in the future, should he ever get out of prison.

Mueller's criminal history goes back quite a ways as indicated by the numerous findings and pleas of guilt.

    One question I have:

Will Mueller now have to pay back the $15M in taxes that he dodged through his criminal behavior?

Or, does he just get to keep that?

I mean, I know he's getting older, but $15M over 47 months is pretty good pay, wouldn't you say?

Sounds like he's on Putin's payroll too.

A 25 year sentence is excessive for anything except murder, rape 1, serious child abuse, and terrorism.

For what he did 5 years seems appropriate. 47 months is a little too small in my estimation.

    The issue is the inequity.

It's commonplace to find sentences in excess of that handed out to minority individuals who have stolen FAR less in nonviolent crimes.

This goes to our two tier crime system, where Manafort actually argued in court that he should be found innocent, because:

=> he wouldn't have gotten caught if there had been no investigation!!!

Can't beat THAT with a stick!

And what you claim is utterly irrelevant.

You can't send a man to prison for a certain length of time "because someone else got a longer sentence".
