Lol, this is an attack on his free speech that is somehow Nazi-esque, be you don't like the word violated? Cool. Got it. Look, you either realize that providing a platform has nothing to do with free speech, and thus your complaints about his free speech are invalid, or you don't. I don't really care which it is, but it would be good to make up your mind. There are actual attacks on free speech out there in the world; no need to feed Peterson's victim narrative by playing make-believe on his behalf.

If you realize that no one owes him a platform, then you realize there is no free speech issue here. If you think this is a free speech issue, then you think he is owed a platform. Because all they did was not provide him with a platform. And you are pretending this is a free speech issue. There is no other way around it. This ain't rocket surgery.

Lol, you don't like the word "violated" . . . but anyone who won't publish his book or invite him to speak is basically a Nazi? Really?

When it is done by a government, it is viewpoint discrimination which is illegal in the US.

The US government does not have to provide you with a platform. Government organizations can decide who they invite to speak. And this wasn't the US government.

"Viewpoint discrimination is the term the Supreme Court has used to identify government laws, rules, or decisions that favor or disfavor one or more opinions on a particular controversy. For example, a government official who permitted ‘‘pro-life’’ proponents to speak on government property but banned ‘‘pro-choice’’ proponents because of their views would be engaged in ‘‘viewpoint discrimination.’’ Courts may also describe this constitutional requirement by saying that government laws and decisions must be ‘‘viewpoint neutral.’’ In recent decades, viewpoint discrimination has been distinguished from content or subject matter discrimination, which involves government regulation of an entire topic or subject, such as abortion, war, or sexual speech, either by punishing those who use this kind of speech (such as obscenity) or by completely excluding the subject from discussion on particular government property or in public forums."

Linfield College in Oregon 'disinvited' Peterson and seriously injured their reputation as a consequence. Linfield is just a hokey liberal facility and of no real consequence but Cambridge doing the same is another matter.

    Here's part of Peterson's spot-on response:

"I also find it interesting and deeply revealing that I know the names of the people who invited me, both informally and formally, but the names of the people who have disinvited me remain shrouded in exactly the kind of secrecy that might be expected from hidden, conspiratorial, authoritarian and cowardly bureaucrats. How many were there? No one knows. By what process did they come to the decision (since there were obviously people who wanted me there)? No one knows. On what grounds was the decision made? That has not been revealed. What role was played by pressure from, for example, the CUSU? That’s apparently no one’s business. It is on such ground that tyranny does not so much grow as positively thrive".

Then criticize their actions. Just don't play make-believe that his right to free speech has been violated.

If conservatives had suppressed free speech back in the day when they had the power to do so America would be a very different place now

Liberal thoughts and ideas would only be whispered in back alleys and behind closed doors

But now that liberals have the upper hand by being in key positions at all the choke points they wont make the same mistake that conservatives did and allow ideas they dont approve of to spread

Conservatives and liberals have both always had the power to refuse to provide a speaker with a platform. You guys are trying to spin a refusal to provide a platform as an attack on the First Amendment, and no amount of spin is going to make that fly.

Both conservatives and liberals have refused to provide platforms. And, no, that isn't suppression.

Never mentioned free speech. Seems to me you're also a victim of intelligent people being 'disinvited' to wherever you received your education.

Jordan Peterson is a highly respected world recognized professor and it is a privilege to hear him speak and respond to questions from audience members. The faculty seemingly wants their students to remain ignorant on some interesting facts of life, and this should be made known to anyone who is considering entering the facilities.

You'll enjoy it, I'm sure, and have no idea why it should even provoke controversy.

This is the interview which began a controversy. I'd appreciate your feedback on this if you have the time, thanks.

This woman is shocking... what I hear and what she hears clearly are two completely different things... is she even listening to him? Obviously she went there to not understand but to battle through the entire interview... she's exhausting me

I also agree with him that the pay gap can also be contributed to "personality traits" being more agreeable = less pay, women being more agreeable.

I will read it thank you... what a shame the University would not share these ideas, I think they are denying their students an incredibly opportunity for growth.

Right. How often did she say "You seem to be saying" rather than just responding to what he actually said? There are better interviewers out there but this is one which got a lot off initial interest.

Review the conversation. You were responding to a post about free speech.
Peterson is a great researcher in the field of personality development. I'm one of his customers. Outside of that, though, he's a mixed bag.

The pay gap topic is also a good example, he points out that gender is not the only reason for the pay gap. She then takes offense... "you seem to be saying that you agree with the pay gap" He clearly then states he does not, however there are reasons other than gender differences that contributes to the pay gap example personality differences typical to women "agreeability". She then circles back to "you approve of the pay gap"

It's almost as if we are now going back to ancient times where any philosophy outside the norm should not be heard... therefore we will twist it into something it is not, in order for it to be rejected.

I can't imagine how Cambridge will survive not having Mr Angry Canukiman shouting his denigrating nonsense at its students.

No I wasn't. There are many posts on here which don't mention free speech. I was referring to the 'disinviting'. The thread actually concerns "Jordan Peterson book banned and university invite rescinded" and was responding to that angle
Well apparently great researchers are being 'disinvited', without explanation, from speaking to university students. Whatever may be in that 'mixed bag' doesn't seem to contain anything too dangerous, apart from contrary evidence to ivory tower atitudes perhaps.

Meanwhile New Zealand bans books and goes full burka after a madman commits mass murder. Again we have farce following tragedy.

So you're familiar with Peterson's work. Which parts do you find most denigrating? And to whom?

So professors at Cambridge would have to "follow the letter of the rules" meaning that would not be able to express their own views?
