Looks like the people in Venezuela have a decidedly different view of socialism than Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and their fellow "progressives" here in the States who want to fundamentally transform America: What's with these insolent capitalist running dogs - didn't they hear the world is going to end in 12 years if we don't follow the Pied Pipers of "Progressivism"? All they worry about is the cost of everything. Freedom and prosperity are overrated...
Oh, and kudos to Race Bannon, aka Vice President Mike Pence: Vice President Mike Pence @VP As the good people of Venezuela make your voices heard tomorrow, on behalf of the American people, we say: estamos con ustedes. We are with you. We stand with you, and we will stay with you until Democracy is restored and you reclaim your birthright of Libertad. pic.twitter.com/ThzIAqBoRn 7:32 AM - 22 Jan 2019 Twitter By: Vice President Mike Pence @VP It's great to see the freedom-loving people of Venezuela standing up to their socialist oppressors again...
Apparently the Ecuadorians are kicking them out of their country as they flee. What can you say? They chose socialism.
Alas, the perils of Democratic Socialism. Little did they know that when they chose socialism they chose to lose their democracy, dumpster-dive for food and wipe their asses with their hands. To be fair, some of them knew better. I hope they get their country back and make Venezuela great again...
Under socialism, where is the incentive to improve, make things better, create new products, or any of the other things that typically happen in capitalism? Where is the incentive for the cream to rise to the top? How many tech companies are in Venezuela? Anyone who views socialism as something positive is probably a person with low ambition and is content at living on the bottom rung of society. Regarding the people on this board who support Sanders, AOC or any other socialist, how can you possibly be on a political forum, frequently read about the horrors of socialism and still support it?
If they get their way, they will learn hard and fast. Socialism puts government in control of all resources and the means of production, they say they do not want that, they only want government to be able direct the means of production and utilization of resources, which of course, is Socialism's brother, Fascism. Yet those adamant in their denials of being socialist never instead claim to be fascist because that is a “bad word” they only want to be applied to opponents. Each of us has a natural right—from God—to defend our person, liberty, and property. Government cannot justly exercise collectively any right that we do not have individually. People without virtue will plunder when plunder is easier than work. The purpose of government is to use collective force to stop plunder so that people instead work. All measures of the law should protect property and punish plunder. The worst thing a society can do is introduce plunder as a public instrument, taking the property of one person and giving to another. https://fee.org/articles/bastiat-on...its-the-very-evils-it-was-created-to-prevent/
A prime example of why there is no such thing as democratic socialism. Once the government takes control it does not give it back. Socialism is not something to be experimented with. If and when it fails there is no going back without a fight. Do we really want to learn that lesson?
