Sure, Carter was a lousy President, especially at PR. But he did do a couple of things right--stopped inflation and begin the process of rebuilding and modernizing the military.

Reagan got 50.1% of the vote. He wasn't a world beater.

I don't think so, but it should have been what did him in. He should have told them to hand back the guys or we're going to fetch them with as many troops as required. If you harm them, it will mean regime change.

Carter didn't face down the "Peace Now!" crowd in his party who plagued Democrats even a decade later when they nearly refused to authorize the use of force to oust Saddam from Kuwait.
