they saved much of the old artifacts early on removing them, had they dumped water on the building as Trump wanted them to, it could of damaged the artifacts and nearby buildings

 

Amazing to think that this magnificent church was built hundreds of years ago without power tools or computers to help in the design.Yet even today we cannot replicate the design and grandeur of this building,by contrast the skyscrapers we build today are largely rectangular boxes with none of the beauty of design displayed in Notre Dame.

A picture inside the cathedral suggests the timbers in the roof are mostly what's gone except for some damaged artifacts inside. If that's true, rebuilding time might be shortened.

Yes, and I've seen Reims and Rouen--Chartres, too. I hope those responsible for maintaining the other cathedrals are paying close attention to fire protection.

I think Saint John the Divine in NYC used the same methods, and some decades ago they had to teach kids how to cut the stones in order to complete it. They say the Rose Window in Notre Dame was not touched by the fire and Putin offered the help of Russian restoration experts if France wants them. I suggest they use them, they won't charge as much.
