keywords... 'won't prosecute'... still means illegal & just because the 'state' won't prosecute, it doesn't mean you can't defend yourself. it is still a crime and the long standing punishments still stand...

edit: if it specifically states 'personal items', then biz owners have no fear, all your sellable goods are not your personal items... incorporate (llc) now!

The DA came on local radio to clarify. Personal items is to be defined as "consumables". (groceries, diapers, etc......) It will be a major headache and I predict that many businesses will shut down. Many others will put up bars and bullet proof glass and sell items individually through a window upon request. Not the best image for a neighborhood.

Grocery stores will have to increase the security staff and raise prices accordingly.

I'm trying to imagine what $750 worth of 'consumables' looks like

It's going to look like convenience stores in Detroit, where all the merchandise is behind bullet-proof plexiglass and you have to ask the store clerk to bring you anything. No hands on the item until you pay for it.

That's what this country is heading to.

Research Orania in South Africa. No one has to bother locking up their bikes or locking the doors to their home.
People just leave their keys in the ignition in motorscooters, and even rifles can be left out in the back of pickup trucks.

Contrast that to most places in Mexico. You can't even leave a used tire in your front yard without someone climbing over the chain link fence and stealing it.

as a proprietor, you have the right to refuse service to anyone... put up a sign on the front door 'must show proof of us citizenship to purchase anything'...

hire a 'bouncer' that checks passports & id before allowing them to enter...

    1) you have no idea what socialism even entails
    2) that was the point I was trying to illustrate, you want social programs when they suit you and not ones that you disagree with even though they would benefit most American citizens

Yes ... let’s go back to the time of private police forces smashing the skulls of union members. I’m all for it.

Conservatives are not Anarchist. Conservative are not against government being involved in their business. They support LIMITED Government involvement in their business. Your argument was a fail from the start.

Like I said. They support programs they like and decry others as socialist. My argument was simple truth.

Your argument was a misrepresentation of the facts. When you ignore those pesky facts, then that does make things much simpler.

Cops still have a voice just like anybody else. They will be the people who respond to the increased crime. Just because the DA doesn't prosecute doesn't mean that the police don't have to respond. I'm glad my DA is vocal against this policy.

I'm okay with the DA not prosecuting shoplifters - as long as the DA won't prosecute store owners if they shoot shoplifters. You okay with that?

I think if they fail to prosecute someone who steals $600 worth of merchandise from a grocery store, the state of Texas should start charge Dallas with violation of constitutional rights. If the state won't do it then the federal government should.

This is basically saying that people have the right to deprive you of your property. I don't see this going very far. if it does there will be no grocery stores in Dallas.

California made it illegal for stores to discriminate based on undocumented immigration status.

(except when it would conflict with federal law)

Also you're not allowed to use e-verify on current employees, or applicants before they're offered the job. Neither are local governments (counties, cities) allowed to require employers to use e-verify.

welp, this op was about dallas texas...

e-verify was an obama abomination, prior to him, businesses were allowed & in most cases required to check... this will change, if it hadn't already, i haven't followed up on it but it was a trump talkin point a while back...

cali is *ss backwards, any & all regulations & talk is something no one should pay attention to because cali is now irrelevant, imo. they've collectively lost their mind and i'd love for someone to sue cali poli's for not being of sound mind & have them institutionalized... starting with pelosi

I don't get why they would do that, and I DO pay attention. That's like making stealing legal up to $750, which makes NO sense whatsoever. If they want to decriminalize something, why not choose a victimless type crime like marijuana possession? $750 is a lot of money as far as I'm concerned. If someone stole that much from me I would be unable to pay my monthly bills, my credit would be destroyed and the quality of my life would be seriously negatively impacted. If I lived in Texas I would be urging this law be given a serious second look because it sounds like a really bad idea to me.

Personally I don’t want to prosecute people protecting their property from threats and would like the DA to prosecute those shoplifters if they survive.
