    Hi,

I thought I'd have a shot at solving our energy crisis.

    ______________________________________________________

    1. We have the largest Uranium reserves of any country worldwide. Roughly equal to Russia, over double the reserves of the 3rd largest.

    2. We have the 3rd best university system worldwide behind the US and UK. ANU and UoM both run highly prestigious courses on nuclear physics which attract the best professors and students from around the world. We have the know how, this is no banana republic.

    3. Our nation is on top of a tectonic plate, inland Australia has practically no risk of earthquake.

    4. We have many very remote areas, thousands of kilometers from capital cities.

    5. Nuclear technology has come a long way in the past 20 years. New technology is vastly safer than old technology.

    6. We have perhaps the best areas to store waste of any country on the planet.

    ______________________________________________________

Accordingly, I propose we move to an electrical grid which is powered near entirely by modern, safe, clean, cheap, carbon neutral nuclear power.

Look at France - some of the lowest prices for electricity in Europe, as well as the lowest carbon footprint.

    ________________________________________________

    The Plan

    • Nuclear grid
    • Household solar, perhaps with subsidies.
    • Hydro and geothermal where nature permits.
    • Wind for small remote towns, with backup diesel generators.
The only problem I foresee is that LEGITIMATELY EVERYONE IS OPPOSED TO THIS PLAN lol.

The Liberals hate it because it doesn't pay off their buddies in the coal sector.

The Greens hate it because it doesn't pay off their buddies in the green energy sector.

Not many Australians are aware that we do actually have potential volcano risks, those in Victoria and SA I believe to be the higher risk.

APRIL FOOL'S: MIGHTY SUPER VOLCANO LIES BENEATH SYDNEY
Sydney sits atop a super volcano which while not predicted to erupt in the next 10,000 years has slowed down the progress of two of the nation’s largest infrastructure projects.

oh btw inland Australia is too dry for a nuclear power plant, it would have to be up north, northern Queensland... they need a lot of water for cooling

    Oh boy,
    what an opinion.
Most of the developed world is trying to get away from coal and nuclear, especially after Chernobyl and Fukushima. With alternative energies not only getting better, but also increasingly cheaper, you suggested a no option to me.
Secondly, who in their clear mind would want to store radioactive drums for the next 30.000 years? And in our backyard?
And thirdly, rating our universities third is wishful thinking. I know we only compare ourselves to other English speaking nations, but to put all three off them on the podium? What counts are innovation, and guess where we stand?

    Only one problem,

The Greens want to stop the mining, while the ALP will do anything to grab the Green support...

I wonder if they'd stop a rare earth mineral mine for their EV vehicles and solar panels. I doubt they have ever seen a rare earth mineral mine, but it is filthy and potentially far more damaging to the surrounding area than either coal or uranium mining.
