The left's solution is throw more guns at the situation once it's too late.

The anti-gun left supports gun free zones and opposes arming faculty/staff/administration because it needs a steady supply of fresh bodies to stand on as it screams for more gun control.

Guns don't solve anything, especially in the wrong hands. A sad day when cowards repeatedly hiding behind a gun are allowed to snuff out the lives of innocent people simply going about their daily routines. Enough already.

Guns don't solve anything in the wrong hands. That may be true but in the right hands they save lives, protect property and make society healthier and more peaceful. As Robert Heinlein said "An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." If this were not so, politicians wouldn't surround themselves with armed guards.

Yes they do. They are the great equalizer.

What's the best way for a 90 pound woman to fight off a 250 pound rapist? A gun, of course.

On the contrary, I know women who are more than capable of fighting off a 250 pound loser with pepper-spray, and/or a few well placed kicks to the groin and/or timely eye-gouges as well.

As a moderate Republican all of my adult life I fully support the 2nd Amendment, the right to bear arms, but putting guns in our classrooms isn't the solution. For some of the gun toting cowards it just means a welcome challenge in their warp minds. Oh, I know, then just give the teachers a bazooka, right? Where does this stop? Every teacher now has a tank?

It's way past time to return to character based teaching in our classrooms, which would require some time, but over time would decrease school shootings dramatically. Only cowards use guns to harm innocent people. Guns are not the solution. Meaningful dialogue can make a significance difference.

For the states and the schools that allow teachers to carry a gun, it's proven effective. Thank you.

The police who rock up after 30 are already shot dead.

Since thousands of schools with unarmed teachers have never had shootings, your assertion is not backed with any statistics.

Multiple millions of carry permit holders out there Allan, probably best to stay inside in one's safe space. Kevlar therapy teddy bear optional.

The woman with the gun can fight them off without risking her own life.

Character based teaching won't work. I was a teacher in the late 1990s. We were required to do character based teaching. It was a joke, and all it did was ruin my credibility with students. Basically speaking, you can't really teach character as a classroom subject. You have to develop it with years of interaction--i.e. like parents do. Character is taught by doing things, not by listening to them.

Oh yeah sure. Even 'in the right hands' such as law enforcement, right? What a load of clap trap. Trained police officers hit their targets less than 30% of the time. But keep telling yourself more guns will make us safer. Delusional thinking.

Being afraid of inanimate objects, it is probably best for you to stay of of Florida classrooms.

Actually no, not in the hands of the police. Armed citizens protecting themselves are more effective. The police have special dispensation to shoot people with little or no real consequence, which results in sloppy responses and excessive force. Armed citizens don't have any special protections and so have to be more careful in defending themselves. Places that implemented concealed carry laws experienced a reduction of violent crimes. When Florida passed concealed carry they experienced an overall reduction of violent crime and a redirection of much of the remaining violent crime to target tourists who weren't legally allowed to carry weapons. The bad guys tried to avoid the possibility of encountering armed victims.

I'm 55 years old and have been in the shooting sports since I was a youngster and none of my guns have ever injured anybody.

And there never will be. Impossible to count how many shootings didn't happen. The potential shooters are thinking, these teachers may have guns and can shoot back, so they go somewhere else. Thus the shooting has been deterred.

My sister lived in Florida for 3 years, and worked as a teacher for a Kindergarten class. She wasn't required to have a college degree, a teaching license, or even go through background checks. She started out as a substitute teacher, but even substitutes are required to have licenses in most states, but not Florida apparently.

We're not talking about some home invasion robbery where it's a one on one situation. The thread is about arming school teachers in class rooms that might experience a chaotic mass shooter situation. Try to keep up.

Where did I say I was talking about home invasion or one on one situations? Your "Try to keep up" quip is moronic and the rest of your post is non-responsive. Statistically, legally armed citizens have a much better track record of shooting bad guys and not shooting people that didn't really need it. This is just basic logic. If you have substantial negative consequences of shooting the wrong person you're going to be very careful. If you get a pass for shooting the wrong person, as cops frequently do, you won't be as careful.

There are any number of stories of teachers or students getting shot trying to stop the shooter or shielding students. If any of those heroic victims had been armed, they might have been able to stop the shooter without dying themselves.
