    I'm not so sure communism is necessarily the correct term to use here. Lots of countries have systems where the government lends assistance to companies, such as Japan and Germany.

    I think that the United States would much benefit from national labs to develop new technologies. Most of the stuff from NASA and NREL are freely available, but more can be done.

    I remember when Bush added a tariff to Chinese steel. At the time I was in the processes of purchasing some steel bars. Of the quantities I wanted, US manufactures would not sell directly to me. But when I went to dealers, their markups were quite high, some more than tripling the price. Turned out, I found a Chinese source that would sell to me in any quantity at a price lower than I could get in the US. Even after paying for the tariff and shipping.

    If you didn't how do you know the quality of the steel? Maybe the composition of the product didn't matter to you.

    But if a company is manufacturing a pressure vessel in order for it to meet the various different codes that such things need to be built to the material must be positively identified, and it must meet a standard. if it doesn't and you build the vessel anyway people die. So whatever you used your bars for probably wasn't critical. I doubt random perchasers of extremely small quantities once make up the clientele of the steel industry.

    which is probably why out capitalist system has resulted in the most powerful economic system and the most equitable economic system in the history of the world. When there is doubt on how the game i going, I usually check the scoreboard.

    They comprehend it just fine. They would just rather have a stronger China than a Trump reelection. As a result of this thinking, literally anything Trump does will be massaged into something negative.

    Replacing "They" with "These Aholes" or whatever won't get XXXX by the filters, or a mod removal/rebuke/warning, would be a far better description, IMHO.
