Where did it say that? I've read the OP's news article a couple of times and I don't see anywhere it says that this didn't happen off school ground or out outside of school hours.

It just went viral online, that dosn't mean it didn't happen outside of school. And if this did happen outside of school hours, I'm pretty sure that would have been cleanly stated. Anyway my point is that school can and does place restrictions on student's 1st A riigghts

Too bad. It is a bad thing to teach children.

I disagree, you allready have restrictions on the 1st A. You can't say anything that will in dangour people, you can't slander. That is teaching people already.

So you don't have any suggestion then? Police responding to a non-crime is certainly one of the weirder things that I've come across.

You talk so much about the school, but you don't think it would be THEIR job to speak to the students and tell them "how such conduct can be seen as inflammatory?" Police time has to be wasted instead?

I agree the police should not be involved, but the school could expel them

I could not make out what the sign said

I missed it first time read it

"“BiaNca You are racIst but I would Give anything for you to Go with mE to PRom,”"

what a weird sign, is that the girls name? not sure the point of the sign, was he saying she is a racist, but wants to date her anyways

Does it make a difference if it is a public school?

still up to the school as it was about a school event, depends on the back story, they win the stupidy award though, even if not really racist and it was some kinda inside joke

for all we know she is known to like only black people, thus the sign, still stupid, but would make more sense, otherwise it makes no sense that I can see except advertising they are both racists

Hold on. You are talking as though freedom of speech and freedom from the consequences of speech are the same thing. They are not.

Asking a girl to prom on your own time is not part of school. Protecting speak you like is easy, but come on people all speech needs to be protected. Even stupid speech. The school totally over step their authority here.

Of course I did. I was just relating my mindset at the time, being young, stupid, and full of myself.

Certainly, discrimination on the basis of vehicle make and colour is WRONG! And just plain nonsensical too. Was there something special about them to make them a target?

I smarted off at the Trooper. So he justly smarted off sarcastically back at me. No he didn't mean it. He pulled me for speeding because I was.

A school can set up their own rules. And I doubt they are required to accept children to a party. It's not as if they are being deprived of being taught. Them kids are openly racist for a school event. That "probably" is violating a school rule about respecting other people's ethnicity,.. and this is it's penalty.

Yay for schools who shove respect down the throat of kids.
    Big yay.

Good thing they learned this lesson now.
Instead of during their 1st job.

The school likely involved the police to project an image. The police respond to non-crimes on a regular bases. They just don't know until they get there.

All in all... great fun that a bunch of juvenile racists who sure were not raised properly get treated like this.
Not to worry. They still are white with all their social privileges intact.
