Of course you will totally ignore the problems in single payer systems because you have your emotions invested.

I’ve discussed it. It destroys your position. As you are well aware.

Subsidies are paid by raising insurance rates on higher earners.

If medicare is so efficient why is it going to run out of funds in P2026? It can't even absorb aging baby boomers much less the entire population and in a few years it will raise rates and cut benefits as it is.

    Not broke, but not healthy

"However, that does not mean Medicare is healthy. Largely because of the inexorable aging of the Baby Boomers, program costs continue to grow. And, as the Trustee’s report forthrightly acknowledges, long-term costs could well increase even faster than the official predictions. The main risks: scheduled limits on payments to doctors and other providers may never be implemented and unknown future medical technologies are likely to increase all health costs, including for Medicare.

This will inevitably mean that either premiums and/or taxes will rise; payments to doctors, hospitals, and other providers will grow more slowly; some benefits may be trimmed; or a combination of all three."

One reason may be the fact it's not allowed to even negotiate drug prices.

As explained, it is now restricted by the government to the very highest cost demographic, 65+.

Incorporating lower-cost demographics into the risk pool lowers the cost. That is an actuarial certitude.

That we would help if they could and I believe congress is taking another look at that.

Well you do make more sense when you are able to leave out your usual political platitudes. I'd be interested to know if anyone has really crunched the numbers on this without an agenda and figured out just how much it would cost. Obamacare isn't working and private insurance running everything is plauged with inequities but when I look at single payer in other countries they don't seem real great either. I'm not sure what the answer is.

Your routine is low brow. Want to show methodological flaw? Then do so. Want to show lack of robustness? Then do so. Want to offer counter evidence? Then do so. A snippet of honesty would be splendid!

No plan is perfect, but single-payer is the repeatedly-demonstrated superior, pragmatic paradigm that every advanced nation has, with variations, arrived at - at around half the cost of the US where premiums continue to soar.

Maximize the risk pool - including the tens of millions who are now without coverage and have their bloated e.r. expenses routinely covered by the taxpayer.

Standardize the bureaucratic data processing and procedures whilst eliminating the multiply-repeated lavish executive salaries, payrolls, agency commissions, profit margins, advertising and marketing costs, political lobbying - all of which divert a sizable portion of every healthcare dollar from actual healthcare.

Relieve caregivers of the burden of dealing with multiple insurers with varying demands.

Relieve American businesses of the government-imposed burden of administering healthcare plans, and thereby relieve the taxpayer of subsiding them.

Will all the superfluous middlemen for whom the current gross inefficiency is a fatted cash cow propagandize and fight progress tooth and nail?

    Of course.

Maybe the poster can demonstrate his knowledge of the "peer reviewed paper" by stating the methodology

Generally the problem with single payer is government bureaucracy tends to be so inefficient and top heavy that it more than makes up for profits in private industry and the product us inferior with long wait times and a clogged health system. It would take a lot to convince me this would work better in the US.

Why state a methodology? You critique one.
