lol One time my family who lives down south came up to visit. I started talking in the same heavy southern accent they had. It totally pissed my sil off to the point my sil gave me a southern weak death stare. My mom gave me the professional Italian death stare. Note to self. Not funny. Dont do it again.

    My poor mom.

One time the kids came up from down south. My mom gave me a heads up. One of the boys was dating a super religious southern Baptist chick. Dont offer the boys liquor and dont swear. Ok Ma. I wont.
I walked into my moms kitchen. The chick gave me the up and down and all around look. I thought oh hell no. Not in my moms kitchen you dont Honey.
I went to the refrigerator, opened it and said, Who wants a ****ing beer? I took some out. Opened them and put them in front of my nephews. I took another one, opened it and drank it out of the bottle without stopping until it was empty and wiped my mouth on my sleeve. Ahahaha she never visited again.
One of those crazy aunt memories we laugh about now.

Last scenic places? Do you stop breathing when you go there? You can smell Elizabeth miles away, a heavy chemical smell, which gives me a blinding headache.

I was there about thirty years ago. It might be different, now.

It's a big city with a small town feel. There is plenty to do, but without the maddening crowds. It has tremendous art and culture, but not so much that you have to spend hours deciding what to see and what you don't have time to see.

    It sounds great.
Ill bet it smells great too.
    I keep saying someday. Someday.

Years ago my mil went on one of those Perillo tours to Italy. The gypsies tried to rob her cash she had in a fanny pack. Tug of war went on until some guy stepped in. They stopped trying to rob her and robbed him.

They warned people on the bus to be careful.
That aint in the brochure. lol Just sayin'.

You could always do a cheap resort in the Dominican Republic. Hear they serve some powerful cocktails. :crossbones::omg::crossbones:

I read it may be some backwoods liquor that is poisoning people.
9 Americans dead. I would like to know how many people of different nationalities died.

My nieces have both been there and showed me pics of the in-room mini bars. Actual fifths of liquor turned upside down in a rack... not little sealed bottles. Easy to replace liquor with rotgut moonshine. Said they probably won't go back, but 7 days @ all-inclusive resort for less than $300 is a deal. (But only if you dont DIE)

I got myself into a potentially dangerous situation, in an isolated area, while there. Two or three guys came toward me. I knew that I could take any one of them. I think that they sensed that it wouldn't be worth it to bother me. So, they just let me back away.

I keep the windows up and hit the recirculate button for the vents because the view suggests exactly what the air smells like.
It is a grim sadly aged industrial scene - I can visualize Terminator robots patrolling it to put any humans foolish enough to trespass out of their misery.

Call James Cameron and Pacific Western and pitch Elizabeth NJ as a location for the next sequel. OTOH, they may have already used it. ;-)

    Good for you! Seriously.
They probably figured you wouldn't be easy prey and moved on to an easier target.

Another thing about Florence was that there is a more relaxed pace. You could sit at a sidewalk cafe for two hours, watching the people go by, without feeling like you were in the middle of an aisle at Walmart.

By contrast, I took the tour of The Vatican. It's definitely worth seeing. If you get within 500 miles, you should go. It's indescribably beautiful, but it's kinda like going through an Ikea store. You wend your way through it and get thrust along by the mass of people behind you.

I hope that all y'all ain't getting bored.

Another place I spent some time at is Landsberg, Germany.

It is a small town that goes back to medieval times. There was a stone wall around it with a main gate. On the main gate was a weight driven clock with wooden gears. It was made in the 13hundred-somethings. It still worked.

What i thought was most notable, is that the weights were bare rocks - like someone dug it up and said "that'll work".

Several people I know have really enjoyed their visits to Germany, and one of my brothers lives there. I've never had much interest in Germany even though my ancestry is heavy on the German side.

It's that one or three of the Celt ancestors that calls to me.

I'd like to go to the old country, too. My grandparents came here from Poland, on my father's side, and Croatia on my mother's side.

I have no idea of their specific originations, just the countries. Without being able to connect with actual family members and locations, my travels would be bittersweet.

Read the English language press from any country you visit and all travel advisories. The Old World ain't what it used to be, and it is getting worse fast.

I think that I was lucky. I went to these places before the European Union existed. When I went, they were still their own countries with their own cultures. France was France and Spain was Spain. From what I gather, they are now just variations on a theme of globalism.

Good morning! No storms here last nite... another case of over-hype by weather guys.

Its my Fri and I feel fortunate to have survived the big move so far. Still have that sense of being displaced, but suppose it will fade in time.

Anybody got big plans for the weekend?
