The values are still there. Unfortunately they been overwhelmed by a flood of immigrants who have 3rd world values. There is a reason that the left is increasingly totalitarian, anti-white, socialist and anti-science.

Are you stating the laws concerning both are the same.. I assure you they are not. This goes beyond "free speech"

No it doesn't. It is about the private sector having the right to say what it likes without government interference.

The desire to have government regulate speech.

So you want no difference between platforms and publishers.. Do you think someone posting something should face no penalties for say slander or defamation?

I think its hard for liberals to understand that their grand implementation of the nanny totalitarian state has been so poorly received by the public. It's as if they didn't expect that when they actually started to censor, to ban competing speech that folks would react and fight back.

I know so few folks anymore that still use facebook.

The first amendment prevents government from interfering with speech. It does not protect the speaker from the consequences of what he says. Slander is illegal. Defamation can cause a civil lawsuit. There are all kinds of consequences. But the speaker has the right say his piece without government interference and deal with the consequences.

True, but they don't have a constitutional right to immunity. It will be voluntary

So then you agree that businesses should be forced to serve gay people then? Correct?

No they don't but the consequences of speech aren't defined in the constitution either. They are defined by law.

If the tech companies are acting like publishers and not platforms, why shouldn't they be treated as such? How could liberals oppose this?

Most of those that do are likely liberals. Conservatives appear to be angry at Facebook.

Most have likely been banned because of their apostasy of liberal though nannying...

Should this site be treated like a publisher? Discus? Breitbart comments section?

The difference is defined, this is a matter of enforcement...

Enforcing what? Freedom of speech applies to the government, not private companies. Peggy Noonan had a column the other day where she suggested the big tech companies be treated like utilities. THAT, I could maybe get on board with.

Whether they are liable as a publisher or not, that's what this is all about...

They're not publishers. If you want to consider them as such, then you'll have to lump in every internet site where anyone can post anything, including this place. Good luck with that. You guys are upset because they're deplatforming conservatives.

They are acting like publishers, that's the point. Therefore they should be treated as such...

Other than popularity, how are they any different than this place?

In this case there is no consequence for free speech, just perks to be gained for voluntarily curbing speech

Legally, I do not know. Hopefully there will be many lawsuits against Tech Giants on many issues ranging from Libel to Monopoly. Only top lawyers understand that stuff.

I hope Non-Leftists do retain Free Speech online.

All fine as long as there is no government involvement.

    They are censoring, remember?
