Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: ‘I Will Never Apologize’ for ‘Concentration Camp’

Sometimes I think that folks should be required to pass a test prior to eligibility for political office. It is examples like the above that reinforce this sentiment.

In another bout of mindless lack of logic and reason - and basic common sense - Cortez is on record for blocking the Keystone - which would bring oil from Canada. Her "New Green Deal" states that we will not transport our pollution problems to other nations.

Roughly 46% of the oil coming into US refineries is imported from some 70 different nations. Nigeria for example is a big supplier.

Not building the Keystone will not change oil consumption in the US by one drop- This means that if we don't get it from "Canada" we must get it from places like "Nigeria".

Keep in mind that Pollution of the Oceans is the #1 environmental issue facing the planet - industrialization and population growth are 2/3 with CO2 coming in at 4. There is no significant difference to the Carbon equation between Canada oil and Nigeria oil in any case.

Where there is a difference is in the pollution equation. Canada does not dump huge amounts of heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants into the Oceans .. Nigeria does.

So in the case of the Keystone - this is Cortez transporting pollution to other nations and worse - increasing that pollution dramatically.

This is the problem with having people in power who have no clue what they are talking about - and who have no ability to understand the basic arguments on both sides of an issue. Never mind whether one agrees with those arguments or not - she does not even know what they are.

whether you know it or not, the education system has been largely privatized compared to how it was when people actually studied progressive and radical ideas. You only have to look to Berkeley to see that.

Ethics, philosophy and critical thinking are largely verboten to business schools and science programs that are little more than free training grounds for corporations.

Sure gender and feminist studies are still there but these are largely relegated to the fringes of special interest groups.

 

Have you heard the women communicate? I hope it was a case of her sleeping her way to a degree. The alternative that she got her degree legitimately says something horrific about our higher education system.

 

Amazing, isn't it? They now believe that the far left is actually middle of the road, and I've little doubt this poster is serious. There has to be an educational overhaul.

 

Yeah, I think they make comments that could be better thought out. But I think there is an adult discussion to be had on some of the ideas in the NGD too.

College is a leftist echo chamber where there can be no disagreement.

 

There is no far left. The Democratic Party power structure rules on the right at least if Clinton and Obama are any example.

Colleges and universities have been a bastion of the left since the 70's.

I worked at a major university for years.

Try saying something bad about Monsanto there and see what happens.

University programs even liberal arts ones like philosophy have largely been privatized or marginalized into irrelevence. Universities are no longer
places that embrace leftist agenda.

This is myth of the right.

Don"t forget that college used to be almost free. Now almost all programs are subsidized by corporations and are geared to training workers and managers with little emphasis on ethics or critique.

Students come out thousands in debt and beholden to work to pay off that debt.

Try being a radical or leftist in that environment and get a meaningful career.

 

Ironically.........you have it almost exactly opposite to how it is.

My entire dept. was beholden to Monsanto and pharma corporations.

Try disagreeing with that agenda and see what happens.

I believe you may be confusing conservative with corporatist. Yes Hillary was a huge corporatist.

She does not have to apoligize for anything she said. She just have to live with the fact that she is a ****ing hypocrite if she pretends to be oh so sensitive for the feelings of ethnic minorities and in fact does not give even a **** if she hurts the feelings of some she does have most obviously no love for.

 

You'll need to take that up with the Brits.
