So a strong economy doesn't draw people and this make sense to you. What leverage do we have to get these countries to clean their acts up? We've got financial aid. Dumping truckloads of money on their leaders has not done the job so let's see if the threat of losing said money will get these shitholes to clean up a bit.

The aid should go directly to the population and not to their leaders. Our government knew where the aid was going but turned the other cheek for oil, etc. Slashing aid will only alienate them and solve nothing. Trump is an expert at alienating other countries with his antics. These suffering people don't know about 'strong' economies. Out way of life is much better than theirs no matter what the economy. good or bad.

Improve our border security and make a few modifications to our immigration and "asylum" policies, and voila, it won't matter how badly these people want to get into America, they won't be able to.

^^^^^ Those solutions have got to be cheaper than propping up the rest of the world in perpetuity so they'll stay in their own countries.

If you had a really nice mansion and some dirtbags from some meth-making shithole trailer kept breaking in to your house, would you be better off to fence off your property and get a good security system? or to build the meth-making shithold dwelling dirtbags a house as nice as yours so they'll stay in their own house?

This sh*t should be common sense, but political partisanship has made some folks lose all sense of reason.

So how do we give it directly to the people? I imagine there are Christian charities in the country but I doubt if you'd approve of giving it to them. Or there is the option of putting strong pressure on the government to do the right thing.

Abolish birthright citizenship? Thought youse were for Constitutional rights.

This is why nationalism is dangerous folks.

If neither of the parents are citizens, then birth of their child on U.S. soil should NOT be an automatic right to citizenship for their child.

If one or both of the parents are citizens, then birth of their child on U.S. soil should be an automatic right to citizenship for their child.

What does that have to do with nationalism?

That child is born on American soil, the Constitution says they can be given birthright citizenship , that's how it should be. I know people who have been born here, move to Canada at a young age, and gain dual citizenship. And neither of their parents are Canadian. Nationalism is looking out for ones own people first. You ask how this ties into nationalism? If you're wanting to deny birthright citizenship, guaranteed by the Constitution, just because that child's parents aren't American citizens, that ties into the nationalists way of thinking nicely. I'm sure birthright citizenship happened in the past with the Irish, German, and Polish citizens that weren't American yet but had children here. It happened before, just with a different population in a different area of the world.

The 14th Amendment was amended to the Constitution in 1868.

The Constitution can be amended again to only allow birthright citizenship for children born to parents who at least one is a citizen.

Just the kind of folks I wouldn't want breeching my borders and infesting my culture with a cowardice ideology! Anytime those folks wanted, they could form a resistance and ask the U.S. for assistance and I'm pretty sure we would oblige them in as much force as they were willing to use against their enemy and survival..

But ya, they have no sack and they prefer a made to order economy and host to cling to and drain..

Without it being word for word, I gave a pretty good textbook definition of nationalism.

It's not the case because we have had patriots in office, not nationalists. The former is better over the latter. That's the reason why we have "sanctuary ANYTHING."

We have the ability to offer aid to the countries by physically doing it if they want the aid. We need to shore up these countries in our
backyard so that their population stays home.

So then, are we to understand you don't like anyone illegal migrant in this country that takes a job or a social resource that "ones own people" are wanting and needing?

In what regard, poor money in to it that their corrupt leaders pocket, or are you advocating any means possible to put those countries on the right track including military take over and annexation?

And how do you get the money to the people. And is this a welfare program that goes forever, because if we're just throwing money there is no assurance these countries will ever be able to stand on there own. Welfare programs tend to create dependency and not self sustenance.

It is disingenuous how Trump supporters accuse Obama, who had the most successful record for illegal immigrant deportations of any President in history, of being a failure, while Trump has allowed the largest increase in illegals entering since 2007, & separated thousands of young children from their parents & made orphans of them. I don't know what kind of twisted values these Trump supporters work with, but those values are no part of the America I believe in.

Many of these children are with adults who aren't their relatives. Should policies have been allowed to continue where adults freely entered our country with kids in tow? That seems quite dangerous to the kids and not a benevolent policy at all. It is a dangerous mess on our southern border and something we need to get under control, but it seems some would rather play politics than address it seriously.

Our policy should be the same for all adults accompanied by children. . .keep records sufficient to reunite those children with their parents after processing is complete. If the children aren't with their real adults, then try our best to find their real parents. But no children should be made orphans because our border guards are too lazy or inept to keep proper records. Illegal children entering with adults not their parents, should be returned to Mexican law enforcement authorities if the parents of those children cannot be located. But this process should be fast to avoid lengthy incarceration of children.

I feel all adult illegals not qualified to remain in the U.S. should be returned to Mexico immediately--except those requesting asylum. Asylum seekers must be processed in such a way as to respect them & their request until a decision is made.

I believe this is fairly consistent with our current policies although children now may be handed over to our social services as opposed to Mexican authorities.

Unfortunately our asylum courts are completely overwhelmed and Congress refuses to address this issue. This becomes an easy way to enter our country as we end up with the awful catch and release policy. Trump has been begging Congress to address asylum problems as well as increasing funding for our asylum courts but the House refuses to do anything.

If they put in half the effort into fixing their shithole countries as they do fleeing them, they might not actually be shitholes. They don't need our money, they need to take some responsibility for themselves. Oh, now I get why liberals are all confused, never mind...

    1. You may be right. I hope they are attempting to find the parents.
    2. Yes, I agree the asylum courts are overwhelmed, but I think the fix is being delayed by BOTH SIDES in this issue. Trump has done things to complicate things as well. It's a complicated issue that needs everyone's cooperation for fixing. I hope after the next election, we can find a way to achieve that.

"Separation only happens if officials find that the adult is falsely claiming that the adult is falsely claiming to be the child's parent, or is a threat to the child, or is put into criminal proceedings."

Not sure what else they can do in this regard. I would imagine the border patrol is doing whatever they can with their limited resources.
    https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/05/illegal-immigration-enforcement-separating-kids-at-border/

'“The conditions where a child might be separated from a lawful parent or guardian at this time are extraordinarily rare,” he said, noting that exceptions pertain to “the safety and welfare of the child, a communicable disease, a serious criminal history, a risk presented by the adult to the child.” He said child separations occur about twice a day, out of 1,600 daily family arrivals.'

People need to suck up their pride and their politics and deal seriously with this crisis.

Why do we give any financial aid?
