The Supreme Court values freedom of speech for the people above all other rights. Something will have to be done about the tech giants limiting speech in what can be called “the modern public square”.

The court is slightly less concerned with public access issues, especially when it conflicts with another right - freedom of religion.

This forum would have to stop moderating. That would make it far easier to manage.

Freedom of religion is not freedom from laws

Social media is not a governmental entity and thus doesn’t have to promote anyone’s language.

People absolutely have the right to say whatever they want but services should not have to host their beliefs should they choose not to. It’s ironic to watch how quickly conservatives change what they have been chirping about for the last 10 years in the blink of an eye.

They pretty much did that on the deletion of the truth rule.

Smart move. The truth is often as debatable as it is inconvenient.

Perhaps you forget how many legit posts poofed under that rule.. Between that a certain a Thinking person thinking that his lack of knowledge or being wrong on anything was a personal attack the majority of posts and threads poofed.

Granted this place can be just as biased towards liberals, the difference is that they do not actually edit out or otherwise make conservative views unavailable...

They do when they breach their ToS.

I still don’t understand how y’all have classified social media platforms as publishers though, they are not creating or generating the content. Is a library now going to be classified as a publisher if they would allow certain texts?

This site occasionally sanctions liberals that violate the ToS, which is way more than those scummy liberal social media outlets. The social media are publishers because they take an active roll in favoring liberals over conservatives. Much of it is done through the programming and algorithms they use, that level of bias moves them away from platform and into publisher...

You can't be both a publisher and a platform.

And we know that their algorithms include things like "christian" and "trump" and "conservative" and "firearm".

    Are you insane?

You think there is censorship now? Wait until you tie liability for the company to EVERY INDIVIDUAL POST ON THE WEBSITE.

You think facebook cracks down on posts now for no reason? You aint seen nothing yet.

This is perhaps the most foolish idea I've ever seen on this forum. And I was here for the election.
Every time this particular record is broken I find myself astounded.

Gotta say Josh Hawley is one impressive guy and patriot. Like everything he's stood for so far.

So is a library a publisher if they have restrictions on content?

Why can conservatives not make their own platform instead of mandating the government get involved so that every 4-8 years new rules will be enforced as to what applies and what doesn’t?

As I understand it, Josh Hawley is trying to stop the left from silencing conservatives free speech while spreading unverified malicious lies about conservatives. If right, it's about time someone did something.

All the libraries around me are part of a network, and between all participants just about any book is available, meaning it would be extremely difficult to provide the bias that would make them publishers. Plus I don't live in some liberal urban cess pit, so there is little chance of finding bias.

I support conservatives building their own sites, that is the best answer. Although expensive, it would be worth it. Of course liberals would invade and troll any such site because they are trashy like that...

it would be private libraries instead of commie public libraries, so it would be easier to ban the liberals who troll and trash them.

They can edit out, ban, delete whatever they want. It's their right, along with millions of other small-time "publishers". To police this, you would need the largest government beauracracy that ever existed.

Except what he's proposing to do is have the corps crack down on EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME because he's going to make them individually liable for each post.

Its like shaving your balls with a razor made from uranium. I'm sure it keeps a great edge and all but that's sort of counter productive
