USSR is a failed experiment. East Germany, Poland, Yugoslavia, Hungary,Romania... no longer Communist satellites.
Cuba is not a roaring communist success.
    Not sure about African states.
    Only China continues.

Nikita will be spinning in his grave at his mighty USSR fragmented and Russia controlled by an ex KGB officer who has accrued vast wealth through the breakup of soviet assets.

Well ... it was Trump who once said to North Korea and "mad midget" that his red buzzzer is bigger? That tells all ... isn't it? ;-)

I never claimed that round earth is a myth.
I do claim that nuclear war is winnable and would result in a much lower death toll than many like you presume.
My beliefs don’t require your approval or agreement with me. I’m glad people in the military have similar views, which means my views are not just my imagination.
If you want to understand I suggest you go and read criticism of MAAD.

Russian technology is better than ours? Were you living under a rock? Do you know anything about Russian quality?
They don’t have anything new that is proven to work. They are only good at making cartoons.
And yet, they couldn’t manage to send a successful probe beyond low earth orbit for almost 30 years now.

The radius of the electromagnetic pulse is just a few miles. You’d need a couple hundred nukes just to completely wipe out Chicago. Nobody has enough of them these days to truly wipe each other out.

As I said, put your pants back on and let adults run this country!

EVERY last deployed nuclear missile system by the Russians was designed during the Cold War.

Wow! Outlawed? We should have outlawed the dems when Roosevelt connived to get us into World War ll. It was under his orders that the American began building nuclear weapons. We should have outlawed Johnson just for being the one who started us down the road of welfare so as to keep the blacks forever voting democratic.

My worry is that his ego and extreme paranoid narcissism will cause him to do something in retaliation for some perceived slight, and lead us down this path.

I also worry that Trump just thinks it would be "cool" to use all the shiny weapons at his disposal for no other reason than he wants to blow something up.

I doubt it. Remember he already bombed Syria, twice, despite Russians being there. I doubt Trump is chicken.

You claimed that "MAD" is a myth - this is the equivalent of claiming that it is myth that the earth is round.

If you want to give a critique of MAD- then do so. So far all you have done is made an unsupported claim (as usual) - in this case followed up with fallacy - appeal to the military. This does not prove your claim true and you have not showed anything from the military that states that MAD is a myth.

Just because we could reduce the death toll - say by building more bomb shelters - does not make "MAD" a myth - so you are engaging in further fallacy.

It is not only that I disagree with you .. the problem is that you have not provided any support for your outlandish claim. The idea that having 1000 thermonuclear bombs detonated on US soil would not result in annihilation of the US as we know it - is preposterous nonsense that only a Mother could love.

While it's true to the context I want to add that his skin is not in the game. A president as the supreme army commander will never see a battlefield.
His only fear is the possibility of losing the war and feeling the tight hang around his neck.
In general, the soldiers doing his bidding are no chickens, but they are stupid. The ultimate kind for me.

I said Russian missiles are better than ours .. and have been for quite some time in many respects. We have been using Russian rockets to put our men into space since the Space Shuttle program ended in July 2011 - we rely on these rockets and it was estimated to take 5 years to replace Russia as a supplier if we wanted to go that route. We also use Russian rockets to send satellites into orbit.

Clearly it is you who has been living under a rock. You have no clue what you are talking about.

Then you double down on mindless nonsense by claiming the radius of an electromagnetic pulse is just a few miles - demonstrating that without a doubt you have no clue what you are talking about.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_electromagnetic_pulse

My guess you are confusing the fireball radius of a nuclear weapon with EMP.

Regardless - the EMP is only part of the damage of a nuke. A five megaton air blast has a fireball radius of over 6 miles - diameter of 12. The Thermal radiation radius is 15 miles (diameter 30 miles) and the blast radius is 21 miles (diameter 42 miles) .

Then there is the fallout to contend with - with ground blasts to maximize fallout the continental US would be nearly completely contaminated by roughly 3-400 detonations. Sure you might find few areas in places like Wyoming that are relatively untouched but places like this would be few and far between - everything else is annihilated.

No Power, no Communication, no Phone, Internet television - no gas, food disappears or goes bad quickly and the drinking water supply is contaminated with radioactivity - and no help is coming for a long long time.

Like most cowards, when you stand up to their threats, bullying and aggression, they back down. So far anyway. Got to give dumbass credit. He probably just saved America from something very nasty.

That doesn't mean that the warhead idiots he had appointed to high office in his bumbling, incompetent and highly dangerous administration won't still find a way to shoot themselves in the head.

Why do you continually spout such uneducated nonsense - seriously - what is your problem. Every time the nuclear discussion comes up you talk as if you have just fallen off the turnip truck and you are consistently proven wrong.

The Russia nuke program has been in continuous development since the cold war and they have deployed many of these weapons already - and some are due for deployment in the near future. All on the list but the SARMAT - are already deployed and it is suggested that some fo the SARMAT are already deployed - but regardless - will be deployed shortly.

All the most advanced Russian ICBMs today are based on the SS-24 and SS-25 mobile missiles that were in development in the early 1980s.
I pay no mind to the SLBMs as they are based on submarines and can be easily destroyed by the U.S. in the first moments of a nuclear war. Given that American submarines have a proven ability to track Russian ballistic missile submarines from the first moments they leave port. And yes they can launch their missiles from their home ports. But they are also sitting ducks while in port.

And your own link is to the SS-18 which was first deployed in 1975!!!

You don’t get it, so you? They don’t have anything new since the times of USSR.

New weaponry was not proven to be capable of anything, as all we have seen were just cartoons.
And generally when you see a country making progress in rockets science they generally do deep space exploration missions. Israel, China, India and Japan did, Russia doesn’t do anything but ferry back and forth to LOE. Their scientific base literally erodes every single day.

If EMPs were so powerful and so far reaching then how could the military take pictures and videos of nuclear explosions when they were just beyond the horizon? Wouldn’t the EMP disable the cameras? How about ships and other equipment that was present with nuclear explosion within current horizon? Wouldn’t they be crippled too?

You completely misunderstand the effect of EMP and grossly over exaggerate its effect.

Also, stop quoting 5mt warheads - those are relatively rare and extremely heavy. Most warheads are in the range of 550-759kt.
Anything over that makes it harder to mount in a missile, especially if you want to use multiple reentry vehicles (that’s what Russians like).

Fallout is a concern, but it’s not immediate death and most people will love their full lives with no long term effects.
There are people still alive today who were just a few blocks away from the nukes that burst over Japan.
Power and communications will continue to function in most places. Food won’t disappear because you can regenerate new clean earth mixes to grow plants in relatively fast. Water will be fine, especially spring water.

A nuclear war would mean a lot of dead. Tens of millions. But it wouldn’t end the US or Russia. MAD is a myth.
