What if that meant less tax revenue collected and less economic activity?

But if it did would you still want the higher rate? What is your purpose in wanting the higher rate?

I'd like to see a progressive rate yes, I view long term capital gains (if we're limiting the discussion to that example) as unearned income but only until a certain point, once you get into the millions I have no problems with the wealthy paying progressively higher rate once they start adding comma's, at least that's how I view it under the current tax code. duly noted I never studied economics in a book i'm using anecdotal info, but then again most book learn economists seem to be wrong on dam near every prediction they've made.

If it was up to me, I'd have a flat tax where everyone pays their fair share, not just the middle class and up but my idea would get me tarred an feathered if I was in congress. I'm middle class, probably considered lower middle but i'm generally thrifty and always have been. I benefit from generous deductions and low tax rates (especially now, thx GOP) tremendously because I'm a big saver with moderate income.

whats the purpose? none except revenue generation since we obviously don't do well in the spending cuts area, and i'm not sure where else they could funnel income if we hammered the area where so much of it goes now.

am I wrong to say that the only place I look to find my effective tax rate is my 8879 that gets printed in april?

    You left-wingers got nothing.

That's why you constantly play the race card.

What race card? You keep making things up

There was no race card. I said that claiming the the Democratic Party of today even remotely resembles that party of Jim Crow and segregation is ridiculous. It’s so laughable that the right contradicts themselves at every turn. You cant say that the Democratic Party of Jim Crow was racist for using race to exclude, and then in the next sentence claim the dems of today are racist for including.

The right in this country today wants to keep everyone out. Any “immigrant” needs to be excluded...hmmm where did that happen before ? Where could that have been? See:Jim Crow

Forget the form number but then my accountant puts it on my summary sheet. It is certainly NOT something derived from a pay stub :frustrated:

So it's not about how much revenue the rate produces just how much of some peoples incomes it takes? What if I showed you that at a 15% rate we collected double the revenue and had 4 times the realizations (a reflection of economic activity) than at a 29% rate within a matter of just a few years apart. Which rate would you want it set at?

One of the problems with a flat tax is what income do you tax? Many people, business owners especially small business owners run their business taxes through their personal taxes, it's called a pass through. The business can have a gross income, but then after expenses have a net loss. What do you tax the gross income meaning the business still has to pay taxes on income it did not keep but had to pay wages and salaries and cost of goods sold and utilities and rent or the loan of the building, maintenance and repairs and on and on. To get to the net income after expense you have to have those deductions.

We the people got tax cuts, as did all tax brackets. And Corporate tax and regulations were cut to make the business environment better and in attempt to bring jobs back to the u.s. What's wrong with that?

Form 8879 is an efile Signature Authorization. It does not show your effective tax rate, but it does show your adjusted gross income and amount of total tax, so the math could easily be done. However, it would not reflect your true tax rate, as your income is adjusted and would likely depict an inflated percentage.

dems wanted bigger tax cuts for the middle class, remember, republicans said this was going to be a middle class tax cut bill, then the biggest cuts went to the Mega Corps and or course the Mega Corps tax cuts were permanent

It reflects your effective tax rate which is different for everyone and NOT on your pay stub as Fresh said was hers.

For individuals it was a huge tax cut for the middle class and of course had just a few Democrats supported middle class tax cuts they could have been voted in permanently. You STILL don't understand that?

republicans controlled congress, they wanted it, still do, but they could not control what was voted on

remember when dems wanted to redo the bush tax cuts and give the working class more, but the right demanded the rich get a supersized tax cut, we finally got the right to agree to drop the top 10%, but they went kicking and screaming

just like now republicans have no control over the house

how about the TrumpDon'tCare bill that favored the insurance companies and wanted to do away with pre-existing condition exclusions
