I once loved the fourth of July. Small town parades, red, white, and blue banners, kids with ice cream on their face, nice patriotic music, wannabe politicians standing on soap boxes, lots of fried chicken and apple pies. In the big cities it's the city orchestra in big green parks, huge parades with marching bands from all the city high schools, a rock concert, big block parties, and fireworks for kids to cry and adults to swoon. And everybody loved everybody.

That was then. The way it used to be. Last year.

Enter Trump. Now the Orange God decided HE should be the center of the Fourth of July. He wants to stand on a stage and show how he loooooves the American flag (kiss hug). He wants there to be a big assembly of everyone that adore him to listen to his magnificent oratory. He wants to be another Lincoln, Washington, and FDR all rolled into one. He wants to fu*k it up. And he will. The only people that will assemble will be his halfwitted, violent (probably armed) base. The rest of us will be elsewhere when the riot starts.

Hey Trump! I'm thinking of a finger, can you guess which one?

Isn't it rather foolish to have your long opinions of the national holiday to change just due to a president who wasn't here three years ago and won't be here six years from now (absolute worst case)?

So Trump is now living in your head. Did you move to DC?

You don't have to turn the TV on, do you? Must you people be offended by EVERYTHING? It is sooooo old now. Personally, I don't think anyone cares about Democrats' growing list of perceived offenses. Go about your life and live it in a positive way-----Democrats are such DOWNERS! They can suck the air out of a room.

I flew my American flag at my house until 1/20/09. When I realized that half of our country hated traditional American values and culture, I lost all interest in being patriotic.

Honestly, I no longer give a rat's ass about America.

So the fact that not everyone is required by law, under threat of violence, to agree with your beliefs means you hate our independence?

It’s obvious you really never liked the 4th. Your post highlights that you are don’t share American values

I fly my flag outside my doorway every day weather permitting. And I don't give a damn who is and who is not president. Right or wrong. My country.

It's all about Trump. The mental health world view him as a classic borderline/ pathological narcissist.

This sort of thing only has the power you grant it.

You can literally say to yourself "This is stupid, and so is Trump", then go about your day. Then later you can enjoy the 4th too.

LOL, perhaps one shouldn't let politics destroy one's holidays. Myself, I didn't give a dang what any president did or didn't do on any holiday. I never noticed what Trump did on the 4th of July and frankly, I didn't and don't care. AMC, TCM and the history channel had some good movies and documentaries on and the fireworks display was good.

Fourth of July unfortunately means drunks setting off fireworks that burn down their neighbors house in LA

Like that every year here, better actually, we have Kronskie too... And we even have fireworks and again in August during the county fair! Really sorry your town turned so quickly in to a shithole, although if all it took was one man to make this happen I'm betting it was a shithole with a very thin tissue covering the inevitable..

In the 1980's and 90's, wood shingle roofs were popular in the Dallas suburbs. Bottle rockets would routinely land on the roofs and set them on fire. It didn't take long for the whole house to go up in flames. Many of the homes were 4,000 square feet. Big homes.

Needless to say, insurance became extremely expensive for homes with wood shingles. No one has those roofs anymore.

It makes me so happy that your hatred of Trump has ruined things you once loved.

Trump didn't put this sort of bitterness into the leftists, it was always there, but Trump was the catalyst that let it bubble to the surface.

It is so sad that a person you hate has such a negative impact on your life. Life is to short.

My family has what we call a family reunion every fourth of July. Not really organized. We decide on the dates and many of us show up at our hometown. No one from the family lives there anymore. I don't keep track, but we are probably roughly half and half republican and democrat. Some fanatic, some not so much. We agreed a long time ago that politics would not be discussed. I can't speak for everyone, but I look forward to seeing them all, democrat or republican. Love of family can do that for you.

Trump will be gone in a few years and he will be replaced without someone which half of us can like or dislike as the case might be.

There are lot more important things in life than the president who will be gone before long.

Yep, companies won't write fire insurance if a house has Italian cypress trees either.

It sounded more like a town of sheep, clearly the town all went south together by the sound of it.. Good last year crap this year? And the 4th isn't even here yet, sounds like all the sheople got together and decided to piss and moan "OUT LOUD" this year or for a better term, come out of the closet and announce and embrace their suppressed depressions ;)

As much as I disliked Obama as a President, I certainly didn't let him turn me bitter and spiteful, and ruin things that I loved.

Because that right there is a sign of a mental illness.

That says much more about the spiteful and bitter person, than it does about the guy in the White House.

I served under the flag and my son is currently serving under the same flag. I'll fly that flag just like I always have. Having an America hating apologist for a president didn't stop me and Trump won't stop me either.

I will admit that I'm starting to like Texas just as much as America. I'm tired of the self hating Americans.

"Texas is receiving immigration and coming-of-age voters that are majority-Democrat. If Texas became a competitive state, it would have a very large impact as it is only one of the big 4 states that consistently goes Republican in presidential elections."
