You're right, I haven't travelled much. I've spent most of my life in the Southwestern United States. Racism is a huge ****ing problem in my community. Remember the New Zealand shooter? People at my work were watching the video with glee, saying things like "should have gotten more." You know the black man who was harassed by an officer for not "looking like he belonged" in the apartment complex he had driven into? A coworker said he "would have pulled his gun." My own family is racist. My grandparents, thinking of moving to Arizona, told me "this is why we're thinking of Prescott" before showing me a demographic pie chart of the city. Want to guess what it said?

I don't have to "travel much" buddy, I live here.

 

After the Mexican American war there were more Hispanic citizens than American WASPS....Yet the US survived and prospered.

 

Why are top dems silent on this?

They don't have to be. There only need to be a large number of racists here in the Southwest. Not a majority of whites, just a lot of them. There already are. Now they just need to be furious. The flipping of Texas, I suspect, will be the tipping point.

I do hope I'm wrong. I live here at ground zero, and that kind of bitterness isn't something I wish for my homeland.

Arizona may have some racist roots but it is also where many retirees move to. It also has a significantly large Latino population. Sheriff Arpaio was replaced by a Democrat. When California threatened a boycott of Arizona it actually helped to moderate the anti-immigrant impulses.

Latinos are already the majority in California and another reason why the Democratic party is firmly in control. There was no outward conflict between Anglos and Latinos here during that transition that I can recall.
