    So?

When a soap features somebody claiming benefits and going on Universal Credit, then I'd think they reflect reality, and I have yet to see one heterosexual couple on Hollyoaks.

In the current political climate in the UK, it would be much more surprising to find a TV soap opera showing a man converting from islam to christianity to find peace.

But with so many muslims already in the country, we know what would happen then...

In reality, the situation is completely the opposite to that depicted in the story line.
Islamic radicalization in British prisons is a huge problem with many leaving jail
as extremists, having been groom by hate preachers....
    Its all in the link...
The soap opera is totally the opposite to reality...
But then again as I said...the UK is totally stuffed due to the dregs of humanity
constantly migrating there and taking over the country.....

What ever the government want to push, it's now on TV. Both in programmes and in adverts.

Actually the reality is that both of these things happen so there’s no good reason to object to either being depicted in a soap. I’ve witnessed both first hand.

In the same way that America is being taken over by right-wing Christian extremists? Because that is exactly how ridiculous your statement sounds to someone who is actually living in the UK.

You do realize that one of the reasons they make shows like this is people like you who watch this stuff out of sheer protest and offendedness?

And that is totally okay for the entertainment industry, as long as it's not politicians who.... oh, wait. Dang. The UK is rooted.

I have lived in the UK all my life and don't recognise your characterisation that the dregs of humanity are constantly migrating here and taking over the country.
The overwhelming majority of immigrants to the UK make a hugely valued and positive contribution, and pay much more into the system than they ever take out.
Neither is the country being 'taken over' by the dregs of humanity. I accept that a load of politicians are a shifty bunch of people, but it was ever thus and nothing at all to do with our evolving multicultural society.

I think your use of the word 'totally' with regard to the UK is misleading.

Why do you ask such a question. Why should you be interested? Is it because I have challenged what you have written in a reasonable and civilised way?

You believe Britain does not have a far right Government and that the Government determines what is on tv? Do you think television will be better now that Boris is PM?

No, I think progressive activists determine what is on TV to the extent that they can get away with, and they get away with far more in Britain than other places.

I don't think it'll change at all with Boris, but if it does, it'll get worse as the media desperately tries to repropagandize the masses away from anything that isn't extreme left.

....like the sports and movie channels for example...how subversive is Antiques Roadshow do you think?
But let me guess here...you've read the OP and swallowed it hook line and sinker and are convinced that this storyline now typifies what is the UK's view point on life in general...you think that Eastenders is the touchstone for the British psyche...seriously...you are are now sold on this narrative?

I think Britain has gone the same way as the US. Corporate Media. The BBC has long forgotten itself as has the Guardian in recent years..so generally it is the same thing. I was also hearing the other day that while the earnings of most people have stayed the same or gone down since 2008 the earnings of those in the media have risen significantly. There was the suggestion that they no longer have an appreciation of what it is like to be an ordinary person trying to make a living in a society which is destroying the rights those who came before us worked and died for.

I am getting curious about the possibility that what is going on with Boris/Trump and the 'centrist's is more a clash among the capitalist class. The Boris/Trump lot having managed to get some of the working class on board but to a large extent both wanting the same. If the 'centrist's just admitted that neo liberalism was dead possibly we could move on. ;)

The only Antiques Roadshow I seen was in America and I can't stand watching sports. My perception is based off the British shows and movies on Netflix and Hulu. I learned a few years ago that they're all social lessons with mediocre acting and unapologetic plot holes, so I avoid them entirely now. Perhaps they've changed recently, but I doubt it.
