No, I am basing my comments on what America's own military has said. For instance, regarding the Fordow nuclear facility (only 250 meters underground, while the missile cities if 500 meters underground), this is what those who would know have said on the subject:

Most people, even among friends, would be as shocked as you were in Iran, should they visit Israel.

You tell me I'm wrong about the motivations behind Iran's actions. Why does the Iranian regime hate Israel and strives to destroy it?

I think the answers are obvious but I like to go beyond the obvious and discuss the issue at some length. My hope is that one day there will be an Israel that can be friends with Iran. A lot has to change to get there, however, and here I am not so focused on the 2 state solution which thankfully is no longer seen as the right solution but an Israel with an ideology, posture, and set of alliances and actions that show it is not an alien creature in the region but a genuine part of it.

Chanting death to the big satan and the little satan just sounds so rational.

Are you sure you aren't projecting? Unlike those who run around reproducing their propaganda pieces, I was asked questions I answered. Otherwise, I do not even bother with these issues unless someone wants to raise them to me. For me, unlike someone engaged in propaganda, I don't care what anyone believes unless they are going to force something I know to be false into my face.

In the meantime, spend your time spreading all these reports and stories. You might believe them, but what I said is what I know to be true.

Here, incidentally, is an article that unfortunately doesn't tackle the false perceptions directly, but nonetheless at least discusses how and what it means to be gay in Iran, focusing on the real issues faced by the gay community as opposed to the propaganda talking points. This will, in any case, be my last post on this subject as I am not interested being called names for explaining things to people who don't know any better and aren't interested to know any better either.

Yeah, that's what the military is saying, but the US has stuff that they don't tell anyone about. That would be really dumb to talk about what you have. I think the USA has mini nukes just waiting to use on Iran.

IN that case I have fallen for American "propaganda", not Iranian one!

I am rather confident the US won't be able to take out Iran's missiles, as they are too numerous and too widely dispersed. I am less confident how effective those missiles would be in light of other developments, including but not limited to the anti-missile systems being developed.

Only a brainwashed person would believe that Iran could withstand an American missile attack.

Are you saying Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was lying when in 2007 he told an audience at Columbia University "In Iran, we don't have homosexuals like in your country ...... in Iran we do
    not have this phenomenom."?

Are you trying to drag me in this subject to then hurl insults and accusations? The article I referred to you has an answer to what you mention that is different than mine. But whatever Ahmadinejad meant and however you slice and dice it, it doesn't really change much and has no bearing on what we were discussing. Still, I post what the article from a gay magazine on the subject said and more excerpts from their article for those who like to talk about the issue without really knowing what they are talking about.
The fact is that many Iranian conservatives like Ahmadinejad imagine that homosexuality is an illness that can be cured by sex change operations. They really are rather ignorant on the subject but, regardless, Iran does have one of the most liberal transgender laws anywhere in terms of assisting with surgery etc.
On the personal level, and how family and friends react to gays who come out in Iran:
But there are also a lot of families that grudgingly accept the facts, even if there will be those who won't:
In the meantime, gays do have their party life in Iran even if it is slightly more circumspect than what you have in some other places:

Your obvious is not my obvious, but I know what you mean. This is what I expected.

But Hezbollah, armed and funded by Iran, sits in the Lebanese government, with the stated goal of fighting for your obvious, totally ignoring the atrocious treatment of the obvious in their own household. How do we explain this?

Iran was colonised by the UK. The UK had the death sentence for sodomy. Research shows that the countries with the most draconian laws against gays whether Muslim or Christian are those which were colonised b y the UK.

I want to understand. You worry because Israel can protect their citizens from balistic missiles dropping out of the sky?
Jews defending themselves, what has the world turned into?

I want to address the issues regarding Israel and Iran in detail when I have the time to put all of the relevant issues in context. It is quite a significant issue and unlike many other issues being raised here, the posture Iran has taken against Israel isn't a fictitious propaganda claim. It is indeed Iran's position and policy that Israel is an illegitimate entity and, while Iran is neither suicidal nor genocidal, it definitely is against the existence of the state of Israel.

Iran was never colonized by Britain and Iran's laws on the subject have totally different roots.

Yes, it seems we just invaded and exploited you. So why does Iran believe homosexuality should have a death sentence. Several years ago a now dead British Iman or scholar said that gay people used to move to the ME for refuge and were accepted. He also said there were also handsome waiters to see people off to wherever they go after they die and that homosexuality was accepted as a part of life. You would appear to be saying that Iran has always been against gays. What is the reason.

After the revolution, Iran's legal system incorporated Islamic law principles in its penal code. The provisions on this issue are directly based on those Islamic law principles. However, the principal focus of these penal code provisions is to make a moral statement and not to drag the state into these issues, which is why actual conviction for such conduct requires conditions that would be ordinarily impossible to fulfill and why so many other provisions are designed to strongly deter and discourage anyone from accusing someone of such conduct..

We had a series of 3 or 4 Documentaries on the Life of Mohammed done by I think the BBC. They interviewed top Islamic scholars. They said concerning this that Mohammed could not not put a strong punishment on it as this would have been too much for people to accept at the time - too big a change from norms and so as you have said he created the idea of the 4 male witnesses believing they would be almost impossible to find.

Having said that we also had a documentary where Iranians were saying they had to have a sex change operation to avoid the death penalty for being gay so possibly there is some way around the 4 witnesses.

During the cold war, the US and the Soviet Union negotiated stringent restrictions on the development of ABM systems because it was clearly understood that while these systems are defensive, they actually do more to undermine the balance of power which was critical to the deterrence of MAD and the consequent refrain from war than even offensive weapons in each side's arsenal.

But for Iran's missiles, along with certain other things such as Hezbollah and its ability to disrupt and close down the shipping lanes of the Persian Gulf, we would have had war unleashed against Iran already. Whatever excuses the US has concocted to invade and attack the host of nations that it has attacked during its cold war with Iran, from the invasions of Grenada, Panama, Afghanistan to the one in Iraq, to the attacks and actions against the likes of Nicaragua, Libya, Syria, and others, it would have had in spades against Iran. And Israel, with its own history of aggression against various countries on such pretexts, including against the likes of Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Iraq and others, would have been only slightly less constrained as well.

Iran's deterrent power relies on several things, not any one in particular, but anything that weakens it will naturally be a concern to me.
