The media wants viewers and websites want clicks. Then there's Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Pretty sure violent crime has been on the decline over the past several years, despite high-profile incidents.

We started down a slippery slope when we allowed the blame for someone's actions to be passed along to someone else.

US has the second lowest murder rate (after Canada) in the Americas. I think we're doing fine.

And he is correct especially the bit about the medical errors in America - courtesy of a broken system

However because we do react to spectacle and act on it that can be an advantage

There is no denying that the air crash investigation industry has made flying safer

This is a Hannity thing yes? Has to be because this is the second time I have heard this bulltwang

Well it is not strictly true. Both Chile and Argentina have lower murder rates than the USA

Probably the first time I agree with you, Balto. How we got here is the question. Guns were even more easily obtained when I was a kid than they are now, but these things didn't happen.

This is the question our society needs to answer. Something about our society has become toxic to some young people, and we need to have an honest discussion with ourselves - devoid of finger pointing and devoid of politics.

We need not to look for a convenient bogeyman (Trump, AR-15s, the NRA, Democrats, immigrants, liberals, etc).

    The answers are not convenient.

Sadly, I do not believe we have leaders in D.C. who can lead this. Everything is political to them. What a shame that when we could use some leadership, we cannot expect it from our elected representatives. All they give us are political positions, talking points, stalemate and inaction. *shakes head*

Trump has tried to make it less so. By allocating 100 billion dollars to clean up minority neighborhoods, bring back jobs and thus make them safer. When you have kids with no job, nothing to do, they are going to find ways to make money. Legal or otherwise. When it's illegal, there are always more and more trying to get in on the action, which is why you have so many shootings in minority neighborhoods. Baltimore got well over a billion dollars. Yet there was nothing done to clean up the neighborhoods. Why? Is that the reason why they have so much crime? What are they doing with the money?

How is protecting illegal criminals helping to make people safer? How is asking police to stand back when they see crime being done to police and civilians like we saw in Baltimore and in Oregon with Antifa? All your doing is encouraging lawlessness.

Well it began when people on the left decided in their hubris to hate churches and evict God from the elementary school and darn near every where else. When they decided to cheapen life by mass murdering the unborn in order to minimize the impact of their children on the never ending party they thought they could create they laid the seed. Instead of being lovers of God they opted to be prisoners of sin and in so doing sowed the wind and now reap the whirlwind. Welcome to the days of being tossed about. Odds are it's going to get a lot uglier before it gets any better.

As long as you rely on government to fix spiritual problems it won't get better. There is Today's Jeremiad for you enjoy.

It's also Democrats protecting illegal criminals. It's Democrats that has police stand down to Antifa assaults on civilians. It's Democrats that has police stand down in Baltimore when people are assaulting police with buckets of water. All that does is encouraged more crime. Then you have Biden saying he will clean out 50% of the prisons if elected. What in hell is the matter with Democrats? They encourage these illegals to come her against our laws. We wonder why we keep having more crime and bolder criminals.

Just maybe seeing the Democrats doing nothing to stop this invasion from the South and watching our Democratic Congressmen going into Mexico bringing people in set this guy to go after Hispanics at Walmart.

Yes, they do. However, the Walmart in question was a posted gun free zone, meaning civilians were prohibited from carrying firearms regardless of what permits they held. They will likely get sued because of it.

May I add to the list?

The concept that came out of hippie days where we quit disciplining children for misbehaving, started telling them it wasn't their fault because they had some "disorder" and began feeding them drugs instead of discipline. A lot of kids grew up without ever learning they are responsible for themselves and their decisions- and blame everybody else. We've raised a couple generations with a large percentage of people who think that way.

And another key item is not on the list- drug overdose. It is the leading cause of death in Americans under 50- certainly should be on the list.
In 2018, the overall drug death toll took a small decline- the first since 1990. It dropped.... to 68,557 people. That is 375 per 48 hours, right behind medical errors.
By comparison, the total number of firearms homicides was 14,542.

Moscow Mitch was a Republicans invented slur.

    Tea party comment was hilarious.

Is that supposed to be comforting for people who just want to run a quick errand to Walmart and end up getting wounded or killed because of some nutbag? Someone choking on their food is their own doing. That is quite different than someone else causing your death when you're just trying to pick up some household items.

Argentina had a murder rate of 5.94 per 100,000 and the US is 4.9 which is tied with Chile for the second safest in the Americas. Google is your friend. Funny thing about Chile, you can own a gun there.

Your list of 'developed' countries is just a cherry picked list of low crime countries.

I have no idea what Sean Hannity says. I dont own a television or watch the news.

This type of talk is what got us here. The whole concept of “invaders” was in the manifesto of the El Paso shooter.

Though that may be true, that does not excuse the fact we have to take action because one is too many.

The uptick in mass shootings started in the late 80's when parents started to drug their children with Ritalin and adults started their dependency on pain medications, anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications.
