I'm not sure if you define a group by the actual positions they hold, that it's considered stereotyping. If I said liberals favor gun control, I don't think I'm stereotyping although there may be the stray liberal here or there who opposes it. Well how is it racism if you accept someone with pale skin with an English surname as "white," but don't think the exact same person is white if they have a Spanish surname? It's ridiculous.
