Most states forbid abortion after 24 weeks gestation.

That's not how it works in geriatric care. Long term private insurance is prohibitively expensive. Medical bills eat up savings, and very few can afford to pay for the kind of 24 hour care they will need. Dementia care needs are rising with the increase in Alzheimers as well. What is not rising are Medicaid re-imbursement rates. Nursing homes, assisted living, memory care and in home care are in a vice. They can't afford to stay in business on what Medicaid is willing to pay, fewer people have sufficient savings even after selling the family home, and there are not enough wealthy private pay clients to run a business on. Meanwhile wage competition is up, staffing options are few, and the quality of care inevitably declines. The 'market' does not work in this industry.

Without extra labor from somewhere - supply and demand will increase the cost of taking care of this demographic to the breaking point.

The other option is retired people could go move to retirement communities in other countries where costs are lower.

Already many retired Americans have moved to Mexico, and there are even retirement communities and nursing homes in Mexico where the language is English, designed to take in American expats. The medical costs are certainly cheaper.

Instead of bringing the cheap labor here, why not send the old to where the cheap labor is?

I expect technology is also going to start helping in the not-too-distant future. But the real solution is for white people to start having kids again, at least two per couple, and preferably 3+. Whatever we need to do to make that happen, we must.

The Japanese are already building robots to try to help care for the old, with mixed success.

Plenty of articles and videos about this.

Maybe the issue is not so much not enough workers to take care of the old, but old people who do not have enough money to afford to be taken care of.

I've already heard of stories of two elderly people moving in with each other and living in the same house, even though they are strangers, to be able to share the cost of an in-home care assistant.

That applies only to the white population and liberals are fully respinsible for it.They destroyed the family as a nucleus ofcthe society. It's easier to control people once they are uprooted.

Quick, flood the country with non-English speaking welfare recipients with 6th grade educations to save us.

So progressives are they only ones to bemoan the jobs lost to automation. You understand that most progressives are the most educated segment of the Democratic voting population. Blue collar Dems and Blacks and Hispanics are much more traditional dems. Trump supporters seem to be part of the demographic that will lose jobs to automation just as well as the dems.

Waiting for the market to correct itself, while millions of our seniors go without needed care? My family recently took care of my Uncle suffering from cancer and we kept him in his home for the last 6 months of his life, My wife's family just did the same for one of her parents. This saved medicare/medicaid 100,000.

This isn't a job for the market, this is a job for government. The market can provide care already for those rich enough for assisted living at 4000 a month, Hell more well off people that can afford 4000 grad the market will build more assisted living and those places can raise salaries and charge the residents even more- big deal that is not the problem.

We are talking about home healthcare type workers who work either directly for the state/city or thru provider agency paid by taxes. That is when the cost of workers is borne. If you are willing to pay more taxes to pay these workers fine, but until then the old go without needed services.

This is total bullshit! Families are smaller now with less siblings to look after them and families have moved apart ln search of economic opportunity. Both my kids are still within 50 miles but two of my bro/sis children have moved cross country. Or are you blaming the "libs" pushing birth control pills, in that case you may be closer to the truth.

It's more than a little IRONIC that the same data that delusional liberals claim is the PHONY premise for white supremacists "white replacement" conspiracy theories, is now THEIR premise for open borders. Seems the smart move would be working with to Devos to begin a HS vocational program, instead of OUTSOURCING to illegals.

You can call them "educated," others would call them "indoctrinated." A college education in no way gives one wisdom or work ethic, or even common sense.

The point about jobs being lost to automation was simply to show that mass immigration is probably not necessary. We still have people on unemployment, right? Now, perhaps my jab at progressives was uncalled for.

And that is how it should be. Thank you for doing your part. Why would you not expect others to do their part, give them a pass, and expect tax-payers to foot the bill?

For the most part, it is a job for families to take care of their own. Lacking that, the market will take care of it. The government needs to stay out of it... because someone else's Mom is not MY responsibility.

Maybe if there wasn't a "tax-payer funded crutch" on every corner, people would be more responsible and provide for their own futures? Government plans funded by tax-payers actually give incentive for people to do all the wrong things. It gives incentive for poor behavior across the board. This needs to stop. If we are giving incentives, it needs to encourage people to do the right thing, i.e. take care of themselves and not be a burden on society.

Which is exactly why the ultimate responsibility has come to rest on the government, unless you favor old folks dying in the streets.

Wow...Govt run old folks homes for all.....I can see that ending well...

    https://www.cnn.com/2014/04/23/health/veterans-dying-health-care-delays/index.html

    "
At least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list.

The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources."

    Socialism.....it will be great....next time....

No, we don't have a Govt to take care of your aging parents. That's why your parents had you.
