Not necessary, but given the current state of intellectual fraud in today’s universities, inevitable.

If freedom of speech means allowing some dick to say ''do you want to gas the Jews'' over 30 times in order to up his online profile you can keep it.

That is exactly the meaning of freedom of speech. Allowing some idiot to say things that are repulsive or offensive to you.
The first thing the ones who will really gas the jews or someone else will do once they are in power, is deny you that freedom of speech.
And this is the real dangar, not the one who atters something you dislike.

Volkswagen builds the most overestimated vehicles in Germany and is terribly devoted to leftist ideology.

No. The first thing the ones who will gas the Jews will do is villify the Jews and encourage everyone to do the same.

well my friend, as a Jew I have to say that the ones who scares me are not some Joe who decided to have a joke using his dog even on the expense of the Jews, but the ones who arrests him for making the joke.
They are the danger, or to be precise the ones who sent them.
Because when you cannot speak your mind, this is when totalitarianism sinks in.
This is when the ones who want to gas anyone whom they don't like or oppose to their treatment of anyone they do not like takes over.
They can be Nazis, Bolsheviks, or what have you, be sure if there is no freedom of speech, they are coming.
And it scares the shiet out of me and should any reasonable person.

It has to be the Jews.

Given a severe economic crisis, the fascists cannot plausibly blame the poor Blacks and Hispanics for manipulating the Federal Reserve.
And given Jewish intellectual superiority and their very prominent place in our culture ... they will be the obvious targets.

But .... a major component of the Right in the US are the pro-Zionists, with the Christians now being even more uncrtical of Israel than are the Jews, according to the latest Pew Poll.

Plus ... a lot of us have fathers and grandfathers and great-grandfathers who, at Sicily and Normandy, took a rather more robust attitude to Nazis than any little cowardly anti-Fa could dream of. Toxic masculinity I suppose some people would call it.

And terribly devoted to manipulating software so that their product spews poison gas as well. Which makes for a kind of Aristotelian dramatic unity.

In Britain, home of liberty of conscience, post the wrong Tweet and you will get a visit from the police.
Winston Churchill would have been up before the magistrates for this bit of disgusting Islamophobia:
It was in his first book, The River War.
Don't go get a copy and look for this quote ... you won't find it in modern editions. Another Englishman, George Orwell, could explain how that works.

I consider this topic a little bit overhyped. Anyway Volkswagen was once a company who supplied us with well manufactured, reliable cars for a low price (it was found to copy the Ford philosophy in Detroit that a worker of the company should be enabled to buy the car of the company). Meanwhile you pay for the label "Volkswagen" just how you do for "Mercedes" or "BMW".

20% of the company is owned by the federal state of Lower Saxony, who elects socialists or crypto-socialists for years who push through an agenda of diversity (affirimative action for immigrants, women, etc.) over quality, which shows its effects in the company. Evil, evil people these ...

I owned a Beetle, and a camper -- 1982, last of the air-cooled engines. Loved them. Went all over North America in that camper.
Interesting about the ownership ... and about all the little hidden mechanisms that are pushing our culture to commit suicide.

    That's exactly what it means.

The alternative is to prohibit horrible things like that.

Sounds reasonable. ... so ... who is to do the prohibiting?

We would have to choose a Board of Censors to make the decisions about what expressons are permitted, and what are not. People who, unlike us ordinary mortals, can hear hateful things but not be affected by them. They would choose what the rest of us are allowed to hear and read.

Some choices will be easy -- "Gas the Jews" is an example. "Hitler was Right" probably qualifies, although banning that might offend some Muslims. Certainly the followers of Mr Louis Farrakhan would be pretty angry.

How about someone who says "That's all Hymie wants to talk about is Israel. Every time you go to Hymietown that's all they want to talk about". Offensive, yes, but ... the Board will probably let Jesse Jackson's statement remain.

Now what about someone who writes that 5 out of 6 oligarchs in Russia are Jewish? (Never mind that in Russia being "Jewish" for many Jews is sort of like being part-Choctaw is for me, a kind of genetic curiousity. The large reserve of anti-Semites in Russia won't care.)

So should a publication with that statement be banned? If so, you'll lose access to Professor Amy Chua's excellent book World on Fire, which discusses the problem of "market-dominant minorities" around the world, a very useful concept.

So ... how about this? No censorship, but definite enforcement of the laws regarding incitement to violence: If, at a rally praising Hamas, a speaker spots a hostile "Zionist" at the fringe of the crowd, perhaps filming the speakers for MEMRI, and shouts, "There's one -- kill him, kill the Jews!" -- then arrest him.

If, on the other hand, a speaker or writer observes, as the head of Hezbollah in Lebanon did, that it's convenient to have all the Jews gathered together in one place (Israel) because that will save us the trouble of having to hunt them down all over the world and kill them ... take no action.

Now to answer my own question, for those not familiar with the author of the second quotation: it was Comrade Rosa Luxemburg, a revolutionary Marxist murdered by German rightwingers in 1919. (She was a brilliant thinker, but a bit naive, and -- like most of today's American conservatives -- believed that the nice peaceful orderly Germany she was used to, would just go on forever, thus neglecting to take the precautions any serious revolutionist would have undertaken -- Lenin would NEVER have been caught by these people -- as German society began to see its social bonds dissolve. Lessons for the future but that's another topic.)

Now ... an English socialist -- who had machine-gunned rightwingers in Spain -- and a Polish/German communist -- and they both had better positions on Free Speech than today's American liberal thinkers in the top universities.

Doesn't that tell you something about where these people are taking us???

We've got to start considering Plan B.

Women have been the caregivers since forever. I'm insulted that these three? people are insulted by women being caregivers. Why do they insist that it is demeaning? The very people whining about stereotypes no doubt had mothers who cared for them. These people need to be ignored, not listened to.

Sharia Law is now respected in the UK as legitimate - the freedom to force religious beliefs on others through physical violence.

That as never a philosophy fallaciously attributed to Ford. He paid them more to keep them on the job because turnover was killing him.
