My cat lived mostly on frogs for quite a long time. Now they're all gone, but still...

I had a big long diatribe typed out about the energy cost a new gas efficient car vs an old guzzler, but you did say 'new', so nvm...

Still, I put enough effort into it that I had to mention regardless

That is NOT an example of cats causing the extermination of a species.

That you know of. When an explosion in ferals in an area causes a marked decline in birds, small mammals, it stands to reason it is very possible.

Maybe it can teach you ecology and what happens when predator populations explode?

Predator populations will not explode. There is a reason for that.

Ha, you should see the wooded lot next to my friends house, probably 50 ferals. I'm not a cat hater but I do know they can negatively impact the environment.

If we ate the dogs (and cats) we could reduce our carbon footprint.

Plus they taste like chicken. ( More like Squirrel really)

If Salon wants to be on the losing end of a very short war, let them try taking people's pets away from them.

I cut back on those items you listed as much as possible. Because I'm fiscally frugal.
But, the energy to run those items can be made from more environmentally friendly resources.

Yes, me too. Nothing to do with saving the world, everything to do with being a cheap bastard!

They could, we'll just have to watch it evolve.

Shoes? Ya don't need shoes. The plantar skin on the sole of the foot should naturally be 1/4" thick like a rickshaw man.

China could really be hurt by outlawing shoes in the USA.

AC, heat, and water heaters are downright earth destroyers. All those Lears flying to climate change meetings. Take 'em down with SAMs.

What's wrong with one species wiping out other species? Absolutely nothing. That's the way of the world and natural history.

Never saw one dog in Korea except on plates. They got 'em, but raise them like meat rabbits.

Haha, trust me, I do my part to bring china to its knees. I go barefoot as much as I possibly can. I use my plasma cutter barefooted. I weld barefooted. I fish barefooted. I weedeat the grass barefooted. I drive barefooted. Sometimes I even sit in my office barefooted. Shoes suck.

That's what I'm talking about! But don't mess with my freakin' dog!

Actually, it's very rare for one species to wipe out another species. It used to be the case that if one species preyed on another, they would reach equilibrium, wherein the predator species didn't wipe out the prey species and both species would live to reach another generation. Our extreme mobility combined with our omnivorous appetite are what have made the difference. And then it doesn't help that the animals we've taken with us, intentionally or accidentally, have been equally rapacious. Rats will eat anything, cats will eat anything that moves and is smaller than them, dogs will eat many things, pigs will eat anything, foxes and stoats eat any and all rodents.

That's what's so odd about Koreans, they eat dogs but they also keep them as pets.
