The invasion was a mistake and everyone in the ME knew it.

You have been misinformed. The pullout from Iraq had very little - if not nothing to do with events in Syria. Sure there were foreign fighters from Iraq that joined in the Jihad in Syria but having troops in Iraq is not going to stop this.

It was arming and supporting Al Qaeda and the various other radical Islamist groups in Syria that was responsible for rise of the Islamic State in Syria. We were protecting ISIS in Syria - not fighting them for most of the war. It was only after ISIS and Al Qaeda had been defeated in most of Syria - other than the areas the US was protecting - that we started fighting ISIS in Syria - Sans a few skirmishes with the Kurds

ISIS will most certainly still have some of the sophisticated military technology we gave them such as surface to air missiles - perfect for taking out civilian airliners.

I am not going to disagree but also once you make the mistake of going in that mistake is water under the bridge. You're obligated after that to make sure you make the place better.

Bush and Cheney intended to invade before Bush ever took office. The Brits began selling the war in 1997-98 with Operation Mass Appeal.

Again, I'm not going to argue about going in.

Were you for the war? Diplomats, historians, oilmen and the Arabs as well as the French opposed the invasion.

    This was a neocon move.

You cannot defeat an idea unless you eliminate all people or the conditions that cause people who believe in that idea. The Romans tried to defeat the idea the concept of Christianity how did they do??

If ISIS is smart, they will follow Napolean's old maxim: never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake. Right now, white nationalist terrorism is a big problem. I think radical Islam is happy to let that continue. I don't think ISIS wants the focus back on them.

[IMG] In a March 21 speech, the president tweeted a map of Iraq and Syria — which experts immediately noted contained several inaccuracies — as proof that ISIS would be “gone” by that night. President Donald Trump triumphantly declared the “100 percent” defeat of ISIS’s caliphate.

And we all believed him, right?

ISIS is like a bad weed. It keeps coming back until you rip it out by the root. Unfortunately the route has become spread out and dug-in. And there doesn't seem to be a will to defeat it.

You can't defeat an idea, but you can discredit it. Or at least win the hearts and minds of the people. Too bad that part of Bush's strategy didn't work. But I still have hope that it's possible.

You can't defeat ISIS unless you defeat the reason for it. Most research suggested the reasons people had for joining ISIS were political not religious. Indeed I seem to remember that most people who joined it although possibly coming from Muslim families so having a Muslim identity had not been practising Muslims.

On 9/11 we, the West, the UK and Europe at least, gave up what we had been living by for decades - certainly in our rhetoric. We stopped looking at the cause of aggression against us and moved into the extremist mode of just calling ourselves good and those who opposed us evil. We through out intelligence out the door and put ourselves and any opposing us into perpetual war.

Possible reason for ISIS gaining strength in Iraq at the current time.

    https://www.salon.com/2019/08/19/ho...re-driving-trumps-anti-iran-campaign_partner/

Israel protected ISIS types in Syria and has made clear that she believes she needs them. It is possibly her wish to get ISIS established in Iraq again to weaken Iraq.

Don't blame me for your lack of education. 13 Bipartisan in Congress did not cosign legislation entitled "Stop arming terrorist act" because we were not arming terrorists - Al Qaeda being mentioned specifically.

Declassified memo's from the Defense Intelligence Agency state directly that we were supporting Al Qaeda and others of the same ilk in Syria.

You were Projecting - Projection is a psychological defense mechanism in which individuals attribute characteristics they find unacceptable in themselves to another person

Your mind can not handle nor deal with information that conflicts with necessary illusions and your propaganda narrative and so you have been driven into some kind of psychosis.

Help can be found here - https://www.goodtherapy.org/blog/psychpedia/projection

I'm not. I am saying you are the one lacking it.

    Psychosis.....seriously?

Personal attacks are commonly employed to conceal a weak position/argument.

Talking about projection, your behavior here is a prime example of psychological projection. Why is it that you spend so much time talking trash about other posters as opposed to sticking to the topic? It's because you project.

    Have a nice day.

All you are doing is projecting your issues on to me. What's laughable is that attempts to educate you fall on deaf ears.

Obama armed and supported Al Qaeda and other Islamist extremist group of the same ilk in Syria. That you want to live in blissful ignorance of this reality is due to your lack of mental fortitude - not mine.

That you liken the demonstrable fact - that the Obama admin armed and supported Al Qaeda and other extremist group of the same ilk in Syria - to a "belief" is proof positive of your lack of education and/or disingenuous denial of reality.
