Conservative watchdog Judicial Watch has accused Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., of “openly threatening the U.S. Supreme Court” in a complaint brought before the Rhode Island Judiciary. "Such a threat violates the spirit if not the letter of Rhode Island's Rules of Professional Conduct," the complaint stated, citing the Rules' preamble, which prohibits using the law "to harass or intimidate others," and says, "A lawyer should demonstrate respect for the legal system and for those who serve it, including judges." This is an interesting development. When the 5 Senators interjected themselves into an ongoing NY court case, I thought their amicus brief would have repercussions. The brief they wrote IMO did seem to be a direct threat aimed at the US Supreme Court. It appears JW thought so as well. Where the heck is the ACLU on this? Apparently one sided as usual. Sens. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii; Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.; Richard Durbin, D-Ill.; and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. took part but they named Whitehouse as “Counsel of Record.” Problem is, Whitehouse's attorney status is inactive in RI and he's not even licensed to practice in DC where they addressed the brief as being from. So, Whitehouse might get slapped on the wrist by the RI bar but the optics for all of these clowns looks really bad. The unauthorized practice of law is a misdemeanor in my state. It’s pretty clear he violated that if he was not licensed in DC. The dems continue to highlight they have no respect for the law
The idea of packing the courts is pretty stupid to begin with but to file their brief to save a bad NY gun law backed by the NRA shows their true unhinged insanity. They filed their brief in a case called New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. the City of New York, the first Second Amendment case the Supreme Court has taken in nearly a decade. "While the odds were remote that the Court would issue a sweeping Second Amendment ruling in a case involving a truly niche New York City law, it seemed likely that SCOTUS would strike down a regulation so strict that it prevented a person from taking his gun to a second home or even on a vacation to a jurisdiction that permitted him to arm himself." Supposedly, purpose of the Democratic senators’ brief was to support the city’s claims that the case is moot and should be dismissed. That may have been on their sinister wish list but what they really wanted to do was to use that case to send a threating message to the US Supreme Court. They wrote: The Supreme Court is not well. And the people know it. Perhaps the Court can heal itself before the public demands it be “restructured in order to reduce the influence of politics.” Particularly on the urgent issue of gun control, a nation desperately needs it to heal. I agree with Larry Tribe... the brief was a questionable move in general, but Whitehouse won't be facing any legal repercussions here... He's apparently a member of something called the Supreme Court Bar, whatever that is... And that brief is certainly not a threat.... Somebody has a lot of time on their hands at JW

The Supreme Court Bar are lawyers licensed to practice law in front of the Supreme Court. He will be losing that license now.
Yeah I know but he's inactive from practicing law and not licensed in DC at all. I don't know what this Supreme Court Bar thing is but it would be odd for a non-lawyer to be a member. Maybe that body didn't know he wasn't a lawyer either? It's sort of like his buddy Blumenthal and his stolen valor of war claims too. They didn't arrest him even though there is a law against it but it looks bad, really bad. This was just a dumb stunt that they will all pay for one way or the other.
The problem is that voters/people are very stupid. Come November, they will have completely forgotten about. And then it's back to business as usual.
In order to argue before the SCOUS, you must be licensed to so. You could be licensed, but never go before them. It’s a throw back regulation from the early days of court.
You just have to pay a fee, you got to be then sworn in there to practice there....and have an active bar licence. The issues, are his bar licence is not active, and two his potential unethical threats to the Court
Maybe so, but it is a direct and negative reflection on the left. Republican congressmen, GOP and Trump will campaign using these guys as examples. Do you really want more of this in Congress? If not vote Republican.
