Why can't polling be used to predict the Electoral College vote?

    Because polling companies are cheap.
To predict electoral college they’d need to separately poll each state and then project winning losing states into electoral college rules.
So, instead of contacting just 1,000 people in one general poll, they’d need to contact 1,000 people in each state. That’s 50,000 people.
The staffing costs would go through the roof.

You have to watch the 5 episode Netflix political docu-drama titled 'The Family'. This 'off the cuff' phrase Trump used - will make more sense.

The margin in the steel belt was so thin, just 70,000 votes, winner takes all states, that no polling would have, could have predicted the outcome. It was Clinton's mistakes and the neglect of those states, hind sight, which account for the slim win in those most important winner takes all states.

It worries me. I remember JFK. It is very interesting to be an American these days. We went from "Ask not what your country do for you" to .... well.... I don't know.

Each state is in fact polled by numerous polling organizations. Nate Silver lists all the polls in each state and DC. Here is the list of polls for Maine and links to polls in other states.

With all the sick actions taken by Trump since becoming President, you seem impervious. I've admitted my inability to understand the thinking of anyone still supportive of Trump at this point. You support him & I'm still at a loss to explain or even understand that. What do you base your incredible loyalty toward Trump on? For me, he seems devoid of all human values & incapable of compassion or understanding. To me, he's possibly the worst example of what I'd regard as a human being, this side of Hitler, Stalin, or someone similar. Yet, you find something in him worth your loyalty. Can you explain that, please?

When you compare Trump to Hitler or Stalin you are showing how out of touch with reality you are.
No matter how rude trump is, comparing him to anyone who was responsible for deaths of millions of people is just plain retarded. I suspect some people support him just to piss off the lefties.

Its actually kind of sad all the people who can't see Trump for the con-man reality TV poseur that he is nor see the horrific con he has pulled on the American people. Imagine Trump posing as someone who cares for ordinary Americans and their jobs all the while enriching himself and his cronies at the taxpayers expense. The only derangement is people who cannot, for what ever reason see through the lies, infantile temper tantrums any time someone criticizes him or the damage he is doing to democratic institutions and America's standing in the world.

    Terribly sad to watch.....

From that well-known Commie rag Bloomberg:

Donald Trump promised to drain the Washington swamp. Instead, he has surrounded himself with family members, appointees and advisers who’ve been accused of conflicts of interest [IMG], misuse of public funds [IMG], influence peddling [IMG], self-enrichment [IMG], working for foreign governments [IMG], failure to disclose information [IMG] and violating ethics rules [IMG]. Some are under investigation [IMG] or facing lawsuits [IMG], others have resigned [IMG]and five have either been convicted or pleaded guilty [IMG], including three for lying to government officials [IMG]. Scandals plague all administrations, but Trump’s is only two years old and the allegations keep on coming.

I’m sorry my friend, what you’ asking me to do is utterly pointless. I will not convince you, and you will never turn me to the dark side. But I still respect you.

The polls predicted Hillary will crash Trump, and crashed herself she was. This is all is counts, not your parsing and splaining.

I can see you have Oblama on the brain disease with a healthy dose of Hillary... It's best just to free your mind because it really doesn't matter their time in over.

I am afraid that with the belief that he is the King of Israel and 'the chosen one', my evaluation of Trump has changed from just a narcissist being manipulated to that he is well and truly nuts being manipulated. As such he is a danger both to the US and the world as are those manipulating him.
