As long as it's US citizen labor doing the manufacturing and services, I don't care about jobs lost and lower employment in Red China (or illegal aliens getting rousted out of jobs here they should not have).

So buy less stuff, but buy made in the USA, GNP goes up, payroll taxes go up. You then have a better, stronger nation.

Not the white ones or even ABC's if they don't speak Chinese.

I am skeptical. Can you document your claim?

below is just engineer from silicon to china, india also hire engineers from silicon now. people will move to where jobs/opportunities are, though it is true high skill worker is highly demand in US right now, but with trump concentrate on traditional sector of manufacture, those area are starting getting neglected. also china/chinese as well as indians invest billions in higher education, most grad school in US are filled with foreigners.

ill just give you one example my company are hiring good engineering, but wait line is 2 years, the pay is 6 figure. which force PM to subcontract jobs due to long hire process, which is more costly, which mean business dont earn $$$ or less. My wife company was force to hire software engineer in india, cause they can't find it here, not because the $$$. There is a shortage of engineer, STEM or other high skill worker in US, but alot american rather NOT goto college and get a good degree, instead they get hang outs or just work for pennies in manufacture. $14/hr manufacture jobs vs 6 figure salary+good 401k, company match 100% of 401k contribution, good benefit, good vacations all for 5 or more years of college or grad school with some decent work experience in a STEM field. My dad was 1st gen immigrant got his PhD in his 40s, the amount he earn in 10yrs is more than an average manufacture worker made in their life time. so you do the math which help economy more. there is a study shows company who design the product take about 40-50% of the profits, the manufacture take about 10% Max, most time less. ever consider why CA is 4th/5th GDP in the worlds, its NOT due to manufacture, its due to bay area/silicon valley etc

Wow! You're not the only one I've heard that from. That has been the popular myth for the last several presidents. President Obama said flat out manufacturing jobs were never coming back.

That was before President Trump brought back 600,000 manufacturing jobs in 30 months.

The US imports almost $550 billion in goods from China. We export about $120 billion to them. That is a $400+ billion deficit for what are basically non-durable (less than a 3-year life) products than can be built in the US.

The single biggest import is electronics--primarily cell phones and computers. They account for about $150 billion of the deficit. A handful of billionaires in Silicone Valley could chop the deficit by a third and create tens of thousands of American jobs.

    What is stopping them?

Another huge import is clothing--around $50 billion. I used to do business with several large clothing manufacturers in Los Angeles. The blue jeans they made lasted a dozen years. Chinese jeans last three years. They could easily set up shop here again.

How did the deficit happen in the first place?

Over the decades, a collection of idiots calling themselves American Diplomats sacrificed millions of American jobs in order to pursue DUBIOUS FOREIGN POLICY GOALS. Several presidents have blessed these mistakes.

If President Trump wants to build the strongest economy we've had in 50 years reverse our trade deficit with a communist country, revive manufacturing and create jobs, I say go for it. .

Our children and grandchildren will thank him.

Why this nonsense about Americans do not want jobs is so stubbornly perpetuated across the media? Who did that research that Americans do not want those jobs?
I did not hear anyone ever offered me that job, those jobs are not advertised on the market by anyone. Of course Americans do not want those jobs, because they have no idea where those jobs are.

Everything sounds great in theory, but it does not help USA at all. The point is no job should be outsourced regardless it ilow skills or high skills. This is a bad practice it destroys the country and give too much money to corporations. By the way, why should I care about Apple's profit? Actually I do not want Apple to make so much money since it completely shuts down competition in US. Apple is killing all the small companies and destroys innovation.

If it was, then it neglected the lessons being taught by capitalists. Capitalism has been inherently globalist since at least 1776. That was the whole point of Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. Capitalist philosophy arose specifically to combat protectionist, anti-globalist mercantilism. That was the whole point.

    Can you spell profit?
    Can you spell revenue?
Do you understand R&D as a percentage of revenue?
Half of the S&P 500 companies revenue is made in foreign countries.
Imagine US corporations with 1/2 the revenue.
    Most would cease to exist.

Aside from a few Buchanan voters, every anti-globalist I've met over the past couple of decades has been on the left. Yep, the free market push was coming from the right. You had some Dems pushing for it, but they were all center or center-right on economics, like the Clintons.

The idea that illegals only want low-paying jobs that Americans won't take is a POPULAR MYTH. Illegals are climbing the skill ladder very fast and they're screwing the middle class along the way.

In construction, entire crews are non-english speakers except for the foreman. A $25.00- $30.00 semi-skilled job now pays $15-$18.00.

I read an article in TODAY, about immigrant truck drivers in Long Beach Harbor working cheap while making truck payments to the shipping company. If a driver misses a few days, the company repos his truck. I would feel sorry except every driver was an immigrant who stole his job from an American who made good wages to support his family.

80 years ago, someone who stole your dad's job with cheap wages was called a SCAB. You could not say the word without spitting. Today, they are called illegal immigrants and we are expected to bend forward for them, or be called racist.

Advise you children to avoid any career where management can replace them with scabs. Good luck with the search. .

    No made in USA products?

Check out places like GM. Ford, Chrysler, Boeing, Caterpillar.... and the new steel plants President Trump has helped build. There are currently 163 million workers in the US--a record high.

You should throw away your old collection of Pravda

Some of it, not all of it.

Isn't that what we all do here?

Heck, I just got told that thousands of engineers will move to China because of the tariffs! I want to play, too.

Right you are. That's why confrontation with China by tariff should come now, before they get any more advantage.

Well, yea, certain percentage of the product but not the whole product. At least I do not see those products in the stores.

The problem also is that even if American agree to work for lower wages, they will not hire him/her.

    Can I answer.
Typically, the goal of a war is to return territories that has been lost due to invasion.
Once law and order is restored, we will see what can be done not to repeat the same mistake.
