    A gun is considered "illegal" if a felon has it. But there is nothing preventing straw sales or indiscriminate private sellers.

    It's more about SOCIAL media. IOW, one mass shooting is being heavily discussed, the other is not. The more Progressive the discussers, the less likely they are to ever mention the 'wrong' one, and the more hysterically they'll discuss the 'right' one.
