What a far-fetched, half-assed attempt at rationalization! Canada is right next door to us... and is it our "problem"? Do Canadians do what we tell them to do? Worse, how about Mexico?! They are right on our southern border... and, yes, they have been a hell of a big "problem" for us, in many ways, for DECADES. But do the Mexicans do what we tell them to do?

The Bahamas? It's nothing but a clutter of islands consisting of little but luxury resorts and mansions for the mega-wealthy, living "large" in the protection of the Commonwealth. Do Bahamians do what we Americans tell them to do...? When have we EVER tried to "tell the Bahamas" what they can and cannot do...? Can't you just admit that calling the Bahamas a "problem" of the United States is nothing but silly nonsense? :spin:

Immigration reform has been kicked down the road from one administration to another. I think it is fair to say that congress is miles apart on nearly every issue. Nothing will happen before the 2020 elections. Nothing constructive will happen after the 2020 elections while far left factions have control of the House of Representatives.

The wall is being constructed contrary to what media reports. By the end of 2020, expect about 450 miles of NEW border wall and related systems to be in place. The influx of illegal immigrants from Central America has been reduced somewhat due to the efforts of Mexico but cannot be considered sustainable or a long term solution.

Border states like New Mexico who are benefiting from the lowest unemployment in decades and who are beginning to see that illegal immigrants who take their jobs and don't give back will be key. If the border states that are red remain red and if states like New Mexico flip to red, then and only then is there any real chance of meaningful comprehensive immigration reform.

Believe me, @Mrlucky , I lived in New Mexico for awhile and it will NEVER be a Red state again! It's a strange place, with very, very different kinds of people in the northern part, and, separately, in the southern part.

The southern (and southeastern part especially) of New Mexico is very Red state -- it's oil, and gas, plus mining and ranching, also a fair amount of tourism. But the population centers are up north -- in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Española, Farmington, etc. Those much more populous northern portions are very Blue state. Large percentages of those New Mexicans are on welfare, and they've been on one kind of government handout or another for generations! It's a feast for the Democrat Party, and it probably always will be.

Everything you say has been true for the past three election cycles, Democrats have won New Mexico by sizable margins. President Obama won by 14% in 2008, by 10% in 2012, and Hilary Clinton by 8% in 2016.

What do any of the radical democrats have to offer? Will they vote for sleepy Joe if he makes it? Maybe we will know a little more in the next 6-8 months.

Trump will be spending a lot of money campaigning in NM. Albuquerque has a very young population. NM will probably be decided there. If they like their jobs, they can keep them, by voting for republicans and Trump. Let's see what they really care about. Also, expect gun rights and abortion to be as or larger issues than immigration.

Navada and Colorado are also going to get much more attention than in 2016. If any of these states go red it will help. If not, I don't think any of them will make much of a difference in the general election. They are not traditional swing states.

I don't see much hope for New Mexico, largely because Albuquerque (the only real "city" in the state) is such a Democrat/welfare center. It is also a 'Mecca' for good and bad sectors of the Mexican-American population, and, for gangs, drugs, crime, etc. No, given on the sheer 'tonnage' that Albuquerque represents, you can forget about New Mexico....

Colorado is even worse, in our own way. The whole Denver-Boulder area is now heavily infested with thick clots of the worst kinds of hyperliberal, radical Democrats, many of whom were imported over a span of twenty years from -- you guessed it -- KALIFORNIA! Today, Colorado is cursed with a Democrat governor, and BOTH houses of our Colorado General Assembly are dominated by Democrats also. We've become a 'Mecca' for low-life, worthless bums throughout the country because the state is beautiful, it has an agreeable climate for much of the year, it has developed great 'support services' for bums -- especially in Democrat strongholds, and WE HAVE RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA!

Funny thing... I voted for legalization of MJ because of all the tax revenue from legal sales. But, that tax windfall is now being offset by all the "services" that liberal Democrats imagine that we just MUST provide to all the homeless bums, while we spend millions more cleaning up all their trash, treating their diseases for free, feeding them, etc., etc. We even squander money from the tax haul on 'prevention' programs to discourage people from consuming marijuana -- the very thing we derive the tax income from in the first place! THAT is the way the liberal mind works! :spin: . We limit the amount that out-of-state people can purchase, when we SHOULD be selling the damned stuff by the ton to anybody who wants to buy it! What they do with it after they leave Colorado is their business! Rant, rave... rant, rave. None of it does any good, so, you can probably write off Colorado in 2020, too.

Oh, on top of everything else, our fine Democrat governor signed an unconstitutional law into effect that forces Colorado Electors to the Electoral College to vote according to whoever wins the popular vote -- just like KALIFORNIA has now.... That means that the Denver-Boulder Democrat bloc will be able to dictate Colorado's official vote in the 2020 election.

Trump will still campaign in these states. They may be, as you say lost but by campaigning in these states, at least the republicans and probably some independents there won't feel slighted. The suburban woman vote is also going to be important. If it comes down to Warren, women may not want to be dominated by a socialist bitch.

I wish I could sound more hopeful, but in the one Republican stronghold of any size in Colorado, Colorado Springs, Trump really made an ass out of himself in the last campaign. The strong Republican contingent in El Paso County, Colorado has probably forgiven him for that, but it only added to the perception throughout the state that Trump is a temperamental child whose behavior at any time with any audience cannot be predicted. It doesn't help either, frankly, that Trump changes people in crucially-high positions in his administration like some of us change our underwear! It's not that we dislike his intention to find, and KEEP, the best people possible, but it does underscore the observation that he picks people for critical positions without thinking about what the hell he's actually doing in the first place!

Interestingly... astrologers (no, I'm not one) will tell you that this is a disturbing, commonly-observed trait in people who are born under the sign of Gemini.... And, Trump is a thoroughly dyed-in-the-wool Gemini!

Also, don't count too much on "women". They thronged in flocks to vote for Obama -- TWICE -- and as American families and American marriages have failed so dismally, more and more "women" look to support and security from GOVERNMENT, as a sort of surrogate 'husband'. That, of course, means that more and more "women" blindly follow right into the Democrat camp, which promises loads of "something-for-nothing".
