No they do not have to change their entire fleet.

Trump is again engaging in petty politics. The whole world is looking to improve emissions.

The point is that they aren't free to make what they want. They are shackled by regulations and when the regulations aren't consistent, the costs go up. If I were the auto industry, I would put meaningfully higher prices on California cars and make it easy for Californians to buy cars in surrounding states. Let California get enrolled in the concept of competition.

The car companies have no legal obligation not to work with CA.

I agree, so there is no reason for him to block the current policy.

No, emission standards policy has been in place for decades, and Trump is trying to uproot that.

His actions certainly don’t reflect that. Why would he care at all about this then?

No I blame California, they can regulate cars BUILT in THEIR state. They cannot regulate interstate commerce.

We would all be better off if California would understand that it is better to be a fellow state than its own country.

That's not the issue the issue is interstate commerce and one state dictating to the others. I want a car the has the power and performance I want and the ability to withstand impact. When my 2006 BMW Z4 3.0si

gives out I want to be able to buy something comparable.

If those other automakers don't want to follow California's guidelines, they don't have to, unless they want to complete. If they're not up to it, I'm sure others will fill the gap. In the meantime, no one is stopping you from buying the vehicle of your choice.

The auto industry is not required to sell cars in Ca.. If they can't compete with those who do sell there, then they need to find jobs elsewhere.

Of course they are, they own a huge real estate company. His daughter and son and law work at the WH and that’s not secret.

Not sure how his son’s real estate companies is affected by auto sales though

But because of their buying power and market share California is trying to violate interstate commerce law.

Correct, the point is state law most comply with federal law, and the constitution...Cali has been give a pass since the 70s, no more at this point.

The folks in Cali that want this are free to lobby the US Congress and the EPA

The cars made by the 4 rogue automakers are I would guess less than 20% of car sales nationwide

Which may shrink considerably if the new cars cost a lot more than their competitors

I get a kick out of obese liberals stuffing themselves into a Prius which immediately gets less MPG due to weight and as you say liberals driving like Jack rabbits as they complain about mpg.
