We all know those leftist snowflakes who shout down professors and other students at topics they dont like. Political correctness kills freedom of speech and hinders exchange of thoughts.

In germany a new law comes into place, that from tomorrow on, will punish any behavior at university, that hinders freedom of speech. Shouting down professors, others students, blocking classes or debates ends in heavy penalties and exmatrikulation from university

If this law was passed in the US I’d be torn about it. From one perspective, liberals do take it too far in universities. At the same time, if you start banning this, then how do you know it does not set a precedent of government banning other types of speech.

Does Germany have free speech guarantees in constitution?

They are not banned for free speech. They can sit down and wait till its their turn, say their argument and thats it.

If they block an event, they get kicked out of university. If they shout down a speaker, they get kicked out of university. Quite easy rules to understand.

Basically it sounds like it is the democratic right to protest which is ending in Germany. They are the same about BDS.

Oh I understood the ban was on protest. Here is what sobo says

protests are part of democracy. You have to provide some genuine information of what they are stopping. I cannot read German so the link is not all right for me and by the way my understanding is that links should be in English. I did a search nothing came up. This is being presented as an attack on people because of their political view. Given Sobo is honest about being far right it would make sense that if he is supporting it, it is something being presented by the German Far right to stop the democratic right to protest.

People have the right to protest in a democracy. I'll leave you guys to gloat because really there is no information on what this is on.

But no one said anything about waiting in line they spoke about
Anyway I have enough of this carry on to watch out for south of the border here.

First, this law in the OP concerns the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, not Germany as a whole. Second, the law itself is not really new. It clearly says so in the article that the local government is going to add a passage to this law which regulates how to deal with people who suppress freedom of speech at universities, because there have been radical far left groups in the past that have, sometimes successfully, heckled massively at certain events so that guest speakers sometimes asked for police protection or at other times some events had to be cancelled. Future consequences for these people can now be exmatrikulation (exppelled for university).

First, what you're referring to is the first verse of the "Lied der Deutschen", there is no 'wrong' version, doesn't exist. Second, it's absolutely no problem to sing the first verse in public. Contrary to many (illinformed) people's beliefs, this verse is not banned. In 1977, singer Heino recorded a version with all three verses including the first. Granted, he was criticised by many for doing that, but there is no ban.

Teaching those big mouths some behavior is a good thing. I applaud the Germans for standing up for law and order in the classrooms or lecture halls!

Your freedom ends, where it cuts another persons freedom. Thats the principle in Germany. You dont have the freedom to shut an event down. You domt have the freedom to shout someone down or threaten him.

Nice try flipping the script, but it just won't work. The origin of the "snowflake" thing was George Carlin's riff on "child worship".

Parents who hyper-coddle their kids and treat them like they're unique and precious snowflakes, and those kids in turn become self-obsessed monsters and crybully attention whores of the sort that the left holds up as their champions.

    i.e.-

The snowflake culture is absolutely a monster of the left's making. They own it lock, stock, and barrel.

Sounds like a law that forces everyone to be respectful of other opinions. Sadly it has to come to this but I do agree it is a good law if used correctly.

Exactly. Beside that we dont have unlimited freedom in our constitution. Unlimited freedom does not exist. Once freedom ends where it hurts someone else freedom.

Nobody has the freedom to run crazy and shut a professor down. Nobody has the right to scream down an event, because he doesnt like whats spoken there.

That works in Germany because attending university is free at the taxpayers expense, most Americans who have atrocious student loan debt probably wish it were true here.
