Students around the world skip school to protest and demand action on climate change

Well, you have to sacrifice, or it least that was the way it used to be, to get sex.

 

So I would ask the Trump FanBoys - when in the history of the world has polluting our air and water been a good thing? Is it so catastrophic that these kids would like to work on more sustainable and cleaner energy sources? One of these kids might be the next genius who changes our lives for the better. Why is that such a horrible thing in your eyes?

Every generation needs a dream. Making life on Earth better for all is certainly one I can get behind.

 

It is very sad that you are exposing how you think here. I’m sure boys go to rock concerts only because girls are there, it’s not possible that they like the music. To you, boys are too shallow to care about the environment but only go because there are girls there.such sad projection. I’m really surprised that when the top girls universities went to coed boys didn’t flock to them, instead they flocked to Harvard and Yale and Princeton and other top male colleges.

Your 'argument' was simply your opinions all gussied up as fact. It is why the entire issue is so controversial, too many folk pretend to understand when so very few actually have the training and skills to begin to understand. All others are simply pretenders.

The scientific community is bought and paid for. They are not idiots. The real scientists among the legions of faux scientists (your high school science teacher is not a scientist. Neither is the weather guy on TV. Real scientists understand that the actual science is understood by a very few people across a host of fields) follow the money and the money (grants, jobs, prestige) all comes from adherence to the cult du jour. You say, 'wait a minute' and you find yourself unemployed.

Lets be honest for a tiny moment. In the entire world there might be a few score actual 'scientists' who understand the science in their fields, few understand the 'science' in any of the dozens of other fields that also touch the issue. This tiny cadre of actual scientists are surrounded with a vast body of lesser folk who might pass for scientists but could never pass as understanding what those at the top of their fields profess to understand. That greater body of folk is itself surrounded with the 'scientists' we see on TV pretending to know what is going on but instead are simply repeating bits and pieces of the thoughts of folk more knowledgeable than they are. These are the folk we see and hear every day pontificating about the issue while at the same time are demanding their followers march to their tune, which millions do.

That is not science, that is religion. You have an idea so complex that no one knows the full story. You have not understanding but instead faith. Faith in the folk you listen to, faith that someone somewhere really understands and the marching orders you receive from societies beautiful people and elites are correct and proper and must be carried out. There is dogma in the use of talking points, assumed truths, and a need to control the message. There are tithes in the use of government to suck money from the economy to carry out the grand plan to save us all. Heretics are punished. Dissenting 'scientists' are marginalized, lose employment possibilities, and are demonized by the mob.

The climate cult is no different than early Christianity, Islam, etc. All three rely on things that cannot be understood, cannot be proven, and require adherence to the faith or else...

One of the pseudo scientists most used tactics is to label anyone who might differ as 'idiot'....

I was thinking some people in the UK voted for Brexit because they had been hurt by austerity and wanted to get back at the Government. I am hoping climate deniers are not just people who have had such a crap life they want to destroy the world........

 

Not if they leave school to 'protest'.
The one who will save the earth will be one that stays in school and work hard to be better.

 

One day out of school for an event won't change their education, be real.

I agree emphatically. Most of them are insuferable. Some are just using the issue as a vehicle to push their social values.

But I feel like my grandkids are going to be pissed at us for all this infighting when we should have embraced nuclear decades ago.

The LFTR experiment at Oak Ridge was in the late 60s. Nixon went with the standard design because it is useful militarily. We could eliminate 80% of current nuclear waste using breeder reactors AND solve the city smog issue which conservatives care about AND solve the emissions issue the left cares about. And there is no risk of meltdown.

And my grandkid will be using nuclear anyway, albeit fusion instead of fission.

In short, I think they will be very critical of both sides of the debate in 2019.
