"If it be your will". Jesus was obedient to the will of the Father. You miss quite a bit for being a so called Bible scholar. The first coming was the suffering servant. There is a second coming. The JWs believe Jesus was an angel and not God. You're very confused. I believe in the Trinity. I'm a very average basic Bible believing Christian.

I respect it also ONLY if it IS a choice....and not something her religion(or anything else) FORCES her to do.

In the context of what was written 'if it be thy will' is irrelevant'. In fact it would seem the whole passage is made up. Jesus was alone in the Garden and his disciples asleep. Who actually heard this prayer? Mark 14:30 'Abba Father'. As a Jew Jesus believed that God was his father. v41 'behold the Son of man is betrayed'......

Read through what I posted. The OT are Jewish scriptures written and understood long before Christianity. Isaiah 53 has nothing to do with Jesus. It would be another 700 years before Jesus. Prophecy is for the time of the prophet - not for 700 years in the future. If someone proved to you that 2800CE would be the end of the world, would you really care. Most prophecy in the Bible was written at the time or after the events.

The first coming was the suffering servant
    - that's simply Christian doctrine.
Look at the other side as well. You might learn something. If you want to understand - try this. https://www.aish.com/sp/ph/Isaiah_53_The_Suffering_Servant.html.

What have the JW's got to do with it. I merely mentioned that they were indoctrinated by their elders. I've debated with the JW's numerous times. They know little about the real Bible. Ask them a question outside of their teaching and they will 'have to go and ask their teacher'. I seldom get an answer. Their beliefs change over periods of time.

I'm a very average basic Bible believing Christian. I'm actually quite sad for you because the Bible is proven to be questionable - at the very least. Modern Bibles are correcting things where necessary. Many Bibles students and even priests/ministers are beginning to acknowledge this. (Even the Vatican). Very few actually believe things like Biblical creation, Noah's flood, the Exodus, Science, archaeology and history are giving us the truth.

I love that....."In the context of what was written, it's irrelevant"..... Typical BS. You're funny.

never said I wasn't, what is stopping you?

we do not need the government telling us which religion we need to believe in

I want to stop people that want to make this a Christian nation, I prefer it to stay a nation with religious freedoms for all, people are free to be a Christian or any religion they choose

a religion would have to really suck if it needs to be forced on people

You seem to think I'm criticizing your beliefs. In fact, you seem to be offended by anyone who expresses different beliefs. You are free to believe as you wish. I'm not bothered by that and I'm not going to talk you out of it. What I will do is comment on things I don't think make sense.

Lol, not offended at all. Christianity doesn't make sense. The Bible says that Christians are an offense to the world and the Word of God is foolish to unbelievers. Anything else?

Women don't dress like sluts because they're pure of mind and heart.
You think anyone can be forced into becoming a Christian?

Naw, I'm fine, but I think you're on a mission and it's failing. Sad for a staff member to troll. Bye.

Forced as in attending services or classes with family going through the motions.
No other human being is responsible for what each of us believes or doesn't believe in.

    Its perfectly clear.

    The Context of Isaiah 53
The key to deciphering any biblical text is to view it in context. Isaiah 53 is the fourth of the four “Servant Songs.” (The others are found in Isaiah chapters 42, 49 and 50.) Though the “servant” in Isaiah 53 is not openly identified – these verses merely refer to “My servant” (52:13, 53:11) – the “servant” in each of the previous Servant Songs is plainly and repeatedly identified as the Jewish nation. Beginning with chapter 41, the equating of God’s Servant with the nation of Israel is made nine times by the prophet Isaiah, and no one other than Israel is identified as the “servant”:

    • “You are My servant, O Israel” (41:8)
    • “You are My servant, Israel” (49:3)
    • see also Isaiah 44:1, 44:2, 44:21, 45:4, 48:20
The Bible is filled with other references to the Jewish people as God’s “servant”; see Jeremiah 30:10, 46:27-28; Psalms 136:22. There is no reason that the “servant” in Isaiah 53 would suddenly switch and
refer to someone other than the Jewish people.

One obvious question that needs to be addressed: How can the “Suffering Servant,” which the verses refer to grammatically in the singular, be equated with the entire Jewish nation?

When Paul asked a rhetorical question about the propriety of headcovering, he only meant for prayers. Catholic nuns still cover their heads when they are on the job. But the influence of feminism and liberal theology have led to the questioning of this practice in the Church at large since the 1960s.

if one doesn't like religious freedom and doesn't support the 1st Amendment, maybe it is them that should leave

luckily the majority supports religious freedom and doesn't feel their religion sucks so bad they need to force it on people

That scripture seems to imply that a woman's hair is her covering.
No one is forcing their religion on you unless perhaps it's muslims. Christians certainly aren't.

and of course their idea of long hair must differ from ours as Jesus was said to have had some pretty long hair, doubt it was the military style haircut

and that is what makes this country great, let's keep it that way, let's slap down Christians and Muslims that want to push their religion on the American people via our government

personally I would remove "under God" from the pledge, not all Americans believe in a God, we should not be pushing the Muslims and Christians God via our pledge, the pledge should apply to all Americans, not Just Muslims and Christians

Do you actually understand the English language. The subject was whether the disciples or even Jesus believed in his Messiahship. What has 'if it be thy will' got to do with it. .Many Christians today use that phrase when asking god for something or to do something. Do they believe they are the Messiah. 'If it be thy will' was irrelevant in the context of the subject.

Hosea 11:1 - used by Matthew to send Jesus to Egypt, is an example of taking something out of. context. Verse 1 is part of the whole chapter concerning Israel. Not Jesus. If you want to apply it to Jesus then you must apply the whole chapter and have Jesus sacrificing and offering incense to idols, etc. Do you want that?

As Margot has pointed out, there are passages of scripture like Isaiah 53 that Christianity has taken out of context.

Psalm 22 is another Psalm used by Christianity. Anyone who has done an extensive study of the life - according to the Bible - of David, will see that it is David pouring out his complaints to Jahweh over all he has been through. Even many of his family turned against him, or got away with murder without punishment,, Absolam, his favourite, turned the people against him and assumed the throne for a while. He shamed David by sleeping with Davids concubines in front of the people. David's life was full of trouble - much of his own making . Psalm 22 is a 'summary' of David's life.

We believe it is you and others that are missing Isaiah 53 and not seeing that it concerns the suffering servant. Many Christian Jews see it. Here is one.
