What sort of occupation force would you have assigned to Libya?

Im not sure how I feel about this one, The kurds have been our allies in syria and a withdrawal of troops means certain destruction of them if turkey invades.

I want to see no more wars, then something happens to make me believe its justified, I dont know at this point

    Here's a fun thought exercise.

What would she have said if Trump had doubled the number of troops?

    Capture.PNG

She would've been all "Hooray for more US troops ending endless wars and leading us towards peace!" right?

Describe what you would consider a "full measure" operation in a place like Libya.

Bomb to destroy their military and invade to subdue their people until they surrender then rebuild the country, bring in business and restore a working government.

Libya's military were all African mercenaries who threw down their weapons and fled.. You must be talking about bombing all the tribal militias who wanted to get Ghaddafi out.

We didn't do that in Iraq.

We haven't done it since ww2

So your idea of a "full measure" operation in Libya is a full-scale invasion on a D-Day scale of magnitude?

You seriously think such a thing is realistic in 2019?

You think you could get Ilhan Omar to sign off on that?

I couldn't care less what that idiot thinks.

I don't know if such a thing is realistic. What i am saying is that what we did in ww2 worked and what we have done since then has not.

Exactly. So let's stop doing the things that don't work.

And let's stop fantasizing about WWII-scale invasions that just aren't going to happen in 'the current year' while we're at it.

Americans should oppose foreign wars under the current command structure and rules of engagement.

Right. Which side do you take when two allies start killing each other. Our presence in the area ensured they didn't start killing each other. We could have arranged for UN peacekeepers take up that role before running away but of course Trump never thought about that.

Argentina thought they were US allies too when they grabbed Falklands, but UK was US ally too, so we stayed out of it. Of course in that case it was an easy call, since Argentina had wrongfully taken an island which belonged to UK.

Then we'll stop complaining about genocide and terrorism around the world?

I agree we need to not put boots on the ground unless we are willing to win the war.

Maybe a constitutional ammendment saying just that. So that if one president starts a war. The next guy has to see ot through. One of our biggest problems has been pulling out before we finished.

Just stop sending troops to fight foreign wars under the current command structure and rules of engagement.

The use of American troops by our corrupt bipartisan ruling political class is more like a form of religious human sacrifice than a strategy to win wars and restore peace.

So should we stop sending cops to inner cities to keep gangs from killing eachother?

America is not the world's cops.

Let the ghetto nations police themselves.

Not in my opinion. Any of them would be better than the walking orange disaster.

Personally, I'm tired of amateurs. I want a president who will first work to undo Trump's damage, then hunker down and do the work of the people without drama. More than anything else, I want a slow news day. :bored:

Everyone keeps saying that as if the area has been never ending war. All this **** started in the 30s. The region had been stable for centuries (while Europe was never ending religious violence) prior to WW1. The Mideast isn't a lost cause, the West simply find instability convenient so mucks things up. Redraw borders along ethnic lines, get off oil, tell Isreal and Iran to cut it out and just leave the region alone. It'll take a few decades for the wounds to heal but the region would stabilize.

Until Turkey promises, in writing such as a treaty, to leave the Kurds be? That's a real stretch, because Erdogan has much of his populace convinced that the Kurds are terrorists, in spite of the fact that they have been at the forefront of fighting terrorism alongside our troops.

In a way, it is similar to the problem with the Palestinians. They were living there for centuries, then pushed out of ancestral homes after the holocaust so that Jews could have an official homeland. Neither side of either of these tribal factions is entirely clean, IMO.
