I fear the Progressive Left as much as you (and I'm a Lefist!), but there's no chance whatsoever that they will ever implement collectivism. They love and depend upon free market capitalism more than just about anyone. Just as the average Prog what they're prepared to give up in their current lifestyle, and you'll find that out VERY quickly.

I strongly oppose affirmative action laws. That doesn't mean that there aren't laws against denying goods, services, housing or employment. A Christian may deny goods and services based on a gay person's belief, but enjoys legal protection from having it done onto them. I oppose all of those double standards.

Each party has their own brand of overreach. If we were to unite against government overreach, the government may just realize who works for who!
