End Affirmative Action. Yes / No & Why

Certainly, neighbouring areas where the rednecks live are far more multicultural than here in Prog Town, so they won't know.

 

You mean Joe the plumber pay for the engineering and technical degrees of persons who will forever earn more money that he? How about the engineering taking the difference between his pay and Joe the plumber's apy and apply just half that to pay off his degree each year until it's paid off?

Yes to creating programs that may give a competitive
advantage to otherwise disadvantaged children.
And I don't mean athletic programs!


Create the expectation in a child, that one may become
a college graduate, professional, etc.
And offer a road towards a competitive advantage.


Problem has been such programs & funds have been preaching
some doctrine of this or that and run by ideologues
who did not go to college or achieve what they should
be stimulating the children to strive.

The West did open opportunities to women way
before your area. No Constitutional amendment was
required to give women the vote when Western States
did.
My parents had family friends who were accomplished women,
not just one. It never really seemed like to big deal to me.
More like raising kids with an expectation, not limits.
And anyone so driven could achieve it.

In "The West" employers were less concerned
if one was Jewish before your part of the country.
"Mad Men" demonstrated it well.


Again, the cure is cultivating a crop of otherwise limited opportunity
children to gain . . . . . without A.A.
Maybe the Black kids need an Asian Tiger Mom counselor along with a good, high quality chicken/beef - fresh veggie - whole milk meal at such centers.

The standard Black Muslim / Black Nationalist who acquired such funds
wasted that funding.

I've noticed for decades although many White people can play "jew, not a jew"
Asians and Black people can't.

Before WW2 and well into the fifties, major corporations did not hire Jews.
As stated above, Mad Men portrayed the coming out & acceptance from
the time when they didn't hire any and had to find one to comfort a
prospective Jewish client - who they then served Shrimp Cocktail.
Well shrimp were not farmed in those days, expensive and still Not Kosher.

While this place is lovely, and there's something to be said for the general safety and nice manners of a hive of self-righteous middle class white Progressives, it's no longer sufficient compensation for the down side - that being, a hive of self-righteous middle class white Progressives. The racism in particular, is wearing real thin. We'd prefer to be around people who don't notice or don't care .. because they're not invested in having 'black friends'. We'd also prefer to be around people who don't ****ing tsk-tsk day and night, and tiptoe around jokes, and sneer at religious people, and struggle with difference, etc etc etc etc etc .. ad nauseum.

PS: We're not in a big city, no. We started married life in the inner city .. like all 20-something hipsters, but have long since abandoned that life.

The progressives around you sound different from the progressives I know. They are tolerant, inclusive, broad minded etc.
My best friend is very conservative, wanted to vote for the anti Muslim party and sneers about black people. Sometimes I want to smack her and tell her not to be a smug git. We don’t talk politics. Gardening talk is better.

 

While i do credit you as being the same, it's rare on a political forum. Most are condescending, rude and elitist (wannabes) and full of arrogance. You are a rare exception.
