Of course it’s failing, because Trump is an imbecile. Coal miners are stupid for voting for him thinking he could resurrect their dying industry. The fantasyland of Trump’s imaginary world where he controls economies and everything bad that happens is a Clinton conspiracy is going to come crashing down hard, and all these dodos who keep supporting him will still find a way to blame Obama and Democrats. That is the true indication of TDS.

Although Trump has tried to boost coal by slashing environmental regulations and installing a former coal lobbyist to lead the EPA, coal keeps losing ground to cleaner and cheaper alternatives. Power companies are rapidly retiring coal-fired power plants and replacing them with dirt-cheap natural gas and increasingly affordable renewable energy.

"It's just simple economics. Coal is not cost competitive," said Frank Nicklaus, a partner at Greentech Capital Advisors, a boutique investment bank focused on sustainable technology.

If you work for a living in the Mountain State Donald Trump is the best friend you got, among a handful.

We need to cut a canal so that American coal can be more easily shipped to China and Asia.

Trump was NOT pushing to save COAL, Trump was pushing to get votes in Coal Producing states.

Consider where coal would have been under Hillary, and then consider where coal is, and where coal can potentially increase to under Trump, and Mountaineer make your decision.

It is really fuk up that we even try to use coal when there is cleaner fuels. Same thing with Oil, and Natural gas. Only here in America are people DUMB enough to believe it HELPS THEM to produce more coal, oil, and natural gas. Fools and their right wing leaders. Going backwards since 1982 and they still haven't figured out why.

Like a women getting punched in her face weekly by a husband and going back, again, again, and again for 40 years. Now she has a cheap job, no teeef, wrinkle facial skin, glasses, and needs oxygen from her neurotic drug induced smoking and crack habit, but she cant blame him, its the Kids fault, and her own. He is just a hard working man that deserves relief when he gets home.

This is the American working class republican. Buying Trump hats, shirts, fast food, shops at wall mart and the most exciting part of their week is Ordering Pizza Friday night, or that once a year to WWE

If you are going to fail at something saving coal companies would be a good one.

We need to spend the money to get these miners retrained for other i industries, not saving the companies they work for.

No. Without oil, the world economy would come to a screeching halt.

China gonna combust a lot of coal and nobody is going to stop them, burn baby burn.. Sell ours to them and profit while the Mountaineers are transitioning their economy to something else over the decades.

Hey smokestack lightning! Shine down just like go-o-ld, hear me cry, don't you hear me cry.

NG is a better product then Coal.. Where the U.S is slipping is export opportunity of liquification of coal and foreign sales.. Another problem is steel production, coal/coke is a key element in steel production and with the vast stockpiles of recyclable metals sitting in metal yard the demand for new steel in down. In 2012 there was an estimated 55 million metric tons of scrap steel in the U.S.

Coal is doing as well as it can for the amount of demand it has..

Plus politics plays in to. If the U.S. was to flood the foreign market with cheap coal little countries like Australia would suffer.. The U.S. has always been mindful not to destroy others economy and adjusting exports with that and them is mind..

Well, I agree, coal is damned good energy, especially in winter when fuel oil is sky high. But it is unlikely that coal will get broad acceptance here. So at least get the profit from it.

When I was little I loved to shovel that coal into the stoker, and it pleased my father to no end.

And who will pay for the canal?

Meanwhile you have to compete on the market with Australia who has the advantage of living on Asia’s doorstep with massive black coal reserves

Coal miners would have already been trained to take other jobs.

Trump supporters bought the farm with that campaign promise. :)

As your chart shows, coal will follow the steel industry for now, IMO, but its decline in power plants was well on its way due to cleaner buring natural gas plants. Everyone should have seen that, and those thought bought into Trump's call, got suckered, plain and simple.

I agree, coal will follow the steel industry, and I agree 100% the natural gas plants outdid on just maintenance alone, due to it burns much cleaner than coal.

Don't worry coal miners....when the super genius Democrats gain control and ban fracking (as all their tarded candidates want to do), then coal will be king since there won't be any more natural gas. Such forward thinkers....those green new dealers.:roflol:

That don't mean US coal should be out of business at this juncture. Milk it until the Mountaineers have another good industry for the prosperity of their state.

They're not going to bring coal back. They're gonna say go live like the Uni-bomber. The cold won't hurt you and it's pleasant.
