Fracking has been in common usage for 60 years just not in the US where most wells are too small to warrant any sort of investment. Once the ppb went to $100 it was suddenly worth it, but the first US companies to try it were sloppy and made a mess.. They are gone now..

Trump had nothing to do with it.

Obama made every possible effort to restrict fracking. Day two in office Trump reversed that policy ensuring a steady supply of low cost natural gas.
Thank you President Trump for erasing obamas many mistakes.

Can't tell you how old the Duke plant is, but the ash pit was built when regulations were minimal. Earthen berms gave way and the river, streams, and lakes (drinking water for some) were all polluted. My guess is that more of these old ash pits are spilling or are contained insufficiently, and the power companies are trying to avoid a big legal challenge.

I believe they scrapped plans for a new nuke some time ago, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Do you realize that trees regrow, and companies that harvest trees are by the nature of the business replant them?

Not to worry. About two thirds of our natural gas is produced by shale mining. https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=907&t=8

If the bed, sides, and gate on your pickup truck don't look beat up in a couple of three years you really didn't need one.

FYI, it does come from shale, but that shale is 3 miles below the surface. You seem to think gas comes from strip mining or something....that's a big NOPE. It comes from solid rock that is split/cracked open with 'fracking' which is a fracturing process that has been used for decades. They are a lot better at it now and with the combination of horizontal drilling, they can extract a lot of gas from shale.

All the oil and gas that started the oil boom back almost a hundred years ago came from shallow deposits that were porous enough to allow extraction without a fracturing process. All that is gone now.

To sum it up....NO FRACKING = NO ELECTRICITY NO PLASTICS NO COMPUTERS NO CARS. That is unless you want some good ole coal fired co-gen plants operating to charge your soon-to-be bankrupt Telsa.

You are assuming that ALL fracking will be discontinued. Only the fracking causing water pollution should be targeted. In any case the Oil lobby wouldn't let that happen.

Yeah yeah yeah, the greenies say that too except that ALL fracking is miles deep and has nothing to do with fresh water pollution. They want all fracking banned. ALL. The Dems aren't smart enough to know how important fracking is.....they think gas comes from the gas station.

Yeah, yeah, but we all know that the next President will NOT be a greenie.

    https://www.americanrivers.org/thre...MImvn99tWb5QIVxRx9Ch0QEQbPEAAYAiAAEgIE-vD_BwE

"Oil and gas development, including fracking, near streams and rivers can have a number of impacts. These include pollution of surface and groundwater, sedimentation of streams from construction of roads and well pads, dewatering of streams, and displacement of wildlife.

"Hydraulic fracturing has been suspected in cases of drinking water contamination around the country, and in some areas where there has been hydraulic fracturing, residents have reported illnesses."

Yeah, yeah, we all know that fracking produces 67% of our natural gas and is very important to our economy, so the health of a few thousand Americans doesn't really matter, does it? As Richard Nixon said, "Some of us have to make sacrifices."

    Guess not.
