Firstly who has said "Saying that the United States and China compete on equal footing, comparing currency exchange rates, as well as labor requirements, is completely false." ?

Secondly you haven't considered the fact that by imposing higher tariffs on imports from China, the importer goes to India or Korea to manufacture the same product but at a higher unit cost to themselves but with the benefit of a lower import tariff. Hence the total trade deficit has increased due to the higher production costs and the corporation tax income to the US government will decrease due to the lower profits made by the importer unless he passes on the increased costs on to the US consumer

Follow the money to impose tariffs.

We have the most leverage in the world. We are the ones buying the goods.

I am not sure what the alternative from the anti-tariff crowd is? Should we eliminate our labor laws? What's the plan here?

Kinda the same logic as corporate welfare which is really just tax breaks to those that pay the most taxes.

You are trying to get a rise out of using the word welfare, but it really isn't.

Opposition to welfare is paying people for NOT producing. This example cant be applied to this situation because they are still producing.

Like Amazon? What did they pay last year again?

Thats not the definition of welfare, maybe you should look it up.

These farmers are receiving welfare and are supporting trump because of it.
They have been bought and sold like the cheap whores that they are.

Amazon lost BILLIONS of dollars over a decade as they grew. Then, they get profitable, and you are upset? Where were you when they were losing money. Plus, they followed the rules to push those losses forward.

That is the portion that many conservatives have an issue with however. Most people support social safety nets, not perpetual dependence. You are only interested in partisan talking points though, so...

So... just curious, are all the people dependent on government welfare whores too? I don't think I ever remember you calling people on food stamps voting for Democrats whores.

I guess your vehement hatred is only directed at people that produce in our society like Amazon and the agriculture industry.

    Typical.

I was there, I have been an investor for several years — how about apple using tax havens to sell through subsidiaries?

Oh I completely agree that intergenerational poverty and welfare is a huge issue, one that appears worsening.

No, just the people creaming that safety nets are communist or socialist only to join those programs for votes.

    You haven’t seen “vehement hatred“

Quote: We collect $100 billion in tariffs and pay $28 billions to the farmers

Mnuchin says China and the US have a ‘fundamental agreement that is subject to documentation’

In light of the tentative accord, President Donald Trump has said he will postpone tariffs on the remaining $300 billion worth of Chinese goods not already subject to duties. They had been due to begin Tuesday. Mnuchin said, though, that those tariffs will be implemented if China does not sign off on the current deal.

    ------------------------------------

    WE COLLECT $100 billion

    Effective May 2019; $250 billion X 25% = $50 billion over 12 months

    Remaining $300 billion worth of Chinese goods not already subject to duties;

    Effective Oct 2019; $300 billion X 10% = $30 billion over 12 months.......POSTPONED!

    WE COLLECT?????????
