Even at the very least, Trump should have notified the Kurds of his intentions so that they would have a few days to prepare and get their kids out of harms way. Would that have been so much to ask for people who had fought along-side our troops? Really?

The Kurds knew. Do you even have a clue of what Turkey is doing? Turkey is housing millions of Syrian refugees that left because of the war. Turkey is carving out a buffer zone in Syria to get these Syrians back to Syria...but the Kurds don't want the Syrians to come back to Syria. Got it?

Trump had no problems sending 3,000 additional troops into Afghanistan and additional troops into the Saudi/Yemen conflict zone. So again, I'm going to call bullcrap on your post.

 

You really don’t see how the presence of US troops and the line that would have to be crossed to invade their AO might give the Turks pause? If it was doing nothing at all, why did they wait until we were out?

Small forces can only keep the peace that the parties involved want to have. Trump was right to get these people out of harm's way, there was nothing to gain by getting some or all of them killed.

 

Didn't think I'd see the day where Republicans started denigrating military service ... things really have changed.

 

To be fair, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM or SOCOM) doesn't come under the order of battle of either the Army or Marine Corps.

SOCOM isn't even with in the Army's chain of command.

That's why the Marine Corps was hesitant and didn't have it's own Marine special operations within SOCOM because the Marine Corps would have no control over its special ops Marines.
Today the Marine Corps has MARSOC under SOCOM command.

There is no Navy SEAL Team 6. SEAL Team 6 was deactivated during the Reagan administration.
What use to be SEAL Team 6 became Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG) under the command of SOCOM.

The U.S. Navy has no control over NSWDG.

Lets go back 51 years ago, the Battle of Khe Sanh.
Actually the battle took place just not at the Khe Sanh Combat Base but also on a number of hills that were fire support bases and there was also an Army Special Forces camp in the Khe Sanh Valley.

Many still remember when NVA tanks attacked and literally ran over the Special Forces camp at Lang Vei during the Battle of Khe Sanh. The Army Special Forces commander requested that the Marines come to the rescue but 26th Marine Rifle Regiment were pretty busy fighting off the 320th and the 324th NVA divisions.

 

Tens of Thousands.

Hell, there are a 1000 ISIS prisoners, alone, getting freed because of Trump's decision to abandon our allies on a whim.

 

Trump could have easily warned the Kurds of the impending pull out of Troops, and given them time to get their children out of harm's way. Instead, he got a wild hair and pulled them (by wild hair, I mean that he was told to move them or risk his Trump Towers property in Istanbul).

 

Turkey had been threatening to invade that region for a year and held off because of that small force of US soldiers in the area. Why was Friday any different?

Finally someone of high stature and status responded to a Trumpian personal attack with a very virulent withering verbal devastating missle strike back at the awful offensive offal ridden attack that the entity that currently occupies the Oval Office made against a true American and a military hero.
The entity that occupies the WH said of Gen Mathis that Mattis was the world's most over rated general. Please remember folks that Donald J. T. Never served even 1/9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 of a second in the military or his country in any way.

What better response then for General Mattis to say that he Mattis ' earned his spurs on the battlefield Donald J. T earned his sirs in a letter from a doctor'.
