"Everybody is Freaking Out": Freelance Writers Scramble to Make Sense of New California Law Where were the journalists when this law was being crafted? Where was the common sense? Why is the government even getting involved in this stuff to begin with? If people want to work freelance or as a contractor that is their business. NOT the governments.
I don't know about this particular instance, but being considered an employee or an independent contractor becomes important with company benefits. For example, my sister works for a lawyer, in order to not pay benefits, SS, unemployment, etc, he declared her an independent contractor. Later, it was determined he was wrong and so he had to start paying those extra costs. Later, he got out from the ObamaCare mandates by cutting her hours to 25. Who with any common sense didn't see that coming?
